No need... he's already signed through next season at $2.75M. That's perhaps partly why the cost was a bit higher. Having term means that the Jets have the option of trading him at any time between the summer and next TDL to recoup a pick or two, or keeping him for two playoff runs.

Yup, I'm happy to have Luke play to FA. If he's still effective and the Jets have a need, he seems like the type of guy who would re sign.

I don't really expect Schenn to extend in Winnipeg as a UFA. He'll be 36/37 at that point and I would think the Jets will have Salomonsson worked into the top 6 by then.

As others have mentioned, I though Schenn looked real good last night. Some nice hits, nice blocks, clears the net well and impressed with his quick puck movement.

My suspicion is he’s going to primarily be on the third pair but moved on other pairings depending on game situations. I think we’re going to see him play with JM at times in the game for specific reasons especially if we are in a key late game face off situation in our zone for example

he and stanley have been brutal. posts earlier mentioned in this thread size and toughness for the POs? sure he brings a bit, what about defensive ability? some quickness/agility? our net-front D has been garbage.

usually i put less onus on a third pair, and as long they're mid it's fine if the top-4 is playing really well, but they've been brutal and a liability in limited minutes! Or an earlier post of the thought of him playing with Morrissey... can't imagine seeing Schenn for 20+ mins.

Schenn looks to me like a guy who was forced to play here against his will. His little push backs in scrums are heartless and meaningless. His play is slow and uninspired. I actually feel sorry for him. Not part of the culture and seems disinterested in the whole thing. Can’t be much fun for him.

Schenn's lack of foot speed is really noticeable in the playoffs. He has no time to make a smart play with the puck so he doesn't. And Stanley does have more room but makes terrible decisions or lacks execution with the puck on his stick, so that pairing simply is a mistake waiting to happen continuously. Why they haven't gone to Fleury/Miller pairing earlier baffles me.

But overall, it's hard to believe how significant a negative impact he's had as a sheltered 3rd pairing defenseman.

I fully expect him to be in the lineup tomorrow because that's how the Jets roll...unable to identify problems and unable to address them.

I wish...but the Jets seem to have Schenn as their #5. Maybe Stanley comes out.

At least Jordie Benn only cost a 6th round pick and was used judiciously as a depth dman.

Can’t say the same for Benn 2.0; cost us a second round pick and appears locked in at #5 on the depth chart. Yikes!
