Will they play him or won't they play him? Still a prospect but this should be the last prospect thread Luke needs.
He’s Schroedinger’s Hughes? Will they play him or won't they play him? Still a prospect but this should be the last prospect thread Luke needs.
Or to take arms against a basket of pressbox tendiesTo play or not to play, that is the question.
Yeah as much as i think he had as good debut as you could hope, who do you sit? Graves is the easy answer (for me, Bahl’s outplaying him IMO) but no way you scratch your second pairing LD that just helped you put together the winningest Devils season of all time because Luke Hughes had one good game against a depleted Capitals team with nothing to play for. There is just no room for him at this point. But he is just an injury away from a spot. Or if somebody totally f***s up and plays a couple of horrific games in a row.
If it were up to me, I'd play him, but I just don't see them doing it.
Luke Hughes will be used if NJ needs a spark, he won't start the series.
Hughes may be a better talent, but two games against non playoff teams isn’t enough evidence to say ‘definitively’ he’s a better player than guys who helped us set an all time win record.
I don’t get the complaints about not using him right away.
For one thing Jack is going to bouncing off of the walls, they should get him over the playoff debut game jitters first.
And seeing what we have to work with before adding him seems reasonable too.
It’s not necessarily put him in game one vs wait until the team’s back is against the wall and faces elimination.
I don’t know what’s going to happen, but to preemptively decide the team will make a terrible choice before it even happened is goofy.
If you watched the interviews after Luke’s games, Ruff was visibly excited over the kid, he wants to get him in there. He saw a player who can skate circles around most NHL players, he’s not blind to what he has in Luke.
That doesn’t mean he plays in game one either.
This what I think will happen. If the team comes out flat or gets behind maybe he gets a chance to step in a change some momentum/light a spark in the team.Luke Hughes will be used if NJ needs a spark, he won't start the series.
This is what I figured too. The players that got us here deserve to start. But if we get behind or Bahl plays poorly I could see Luke being inserted.Luke Hughes will be used if NJ needs a spark, he won't start the series.
Luke thrives at that but right now we are struggling with that. Our defensmen actually have been good most of the year moving the puck out our zone. That's why our counter attack was so good. It's in the offensive zone where we lack an elite skating d man. Hamilton and Severson are the only ones that really roam around the o zone but they can't walk the line like Luke can.Don’t you just love when a team where one of their biggest issues all year has been retrievals and clean breakouts leaving out the guy who might be the best in the org already at those things? Free him.
Can’t wait until he has a spot next season.Don’t you just love when a team where one of their biggest issues all year has been retrievals and clean breakouts leaving out the guy who might be the best in the org already at those things? Free him.
