Lucic vs Reaves

I'm not acting heartbroken but the fact that you're saying he isn't tough is remarkably laughable and quite honestly insane.

Why? Are you stuck on the word ‘tough’? You know what I mean when I say that. [mod]

Lucic isn’t a tie domi. Can he fight whatever tough guys are left in the nhl? Ya, I guess so, but the level of competition in the toughness category has really taken a nose dive.

There are no real tough guys left. Just because you fight doesn’t make you ‘tough’, especially when you’re one of the bigger fish in a very small pond.

Lucic is the ‘new’ generation of tough. It’s just that ‘new’ isn’t really better

But why are you using it against Lucic and not Reaves?

Maybe I should, I’ve already said I might be over estimating reaves. I haven’t watched as much of him as I have of lucic.

Reputation might be clouding my opinion on reaves where it isn’t on lucic, because I’ve seen more of lucic

You also have to keep in mind Reaves job is essentially TO FIGHT. He would play 8 minutes and try to engage as much as possible.

Lucic was an effective 1st line winger during his prime and literally no other top line winger fought the guys he did over that stretch of time. None.

He was valuable on the ice which is why Shawn Thornton took care of the bulk of the goon fighting.

That's not all Reaves does. He also throws cheap shots and headhunts

I think Lucic actually is a really good fighter, and I think getting in the league earlier allowed him to have a fight card against some of the legit heavyweights that still hung around. I know Reaves and Looch only entered the league a few years apart but those years were where legit heavyweights were leaving the league for good.

Reaves I actually agree made his name once th legit guys were gone pretty much, and he pumps his own tires about how tough he is, but Lucic did more when they were younger.

Lucic as a 19 year old rookie had a fight card with Ivanans, Erskine, Boll, and Brookbank. Legit heavyweights that would've been able to hang in any era. Mixed in with several extremely legit light heavyweights. Reaves debuted a few years older and didnt have that going for him.

Prime Bob Probert would eat them both for breakfast

Yeah Probert was something else.

And that’s much more lucic’s game, there’s nothing wrong with that. He’s like a little baby wendel Clark.

I like that

I’m just not into the ‘lucic is a heavyweight’ talk. Cause he’s not

Is it because he's not big enough? It's weird that he's bigger than Wendel Clark yet he's a "little baby" version of him.

The dude is like 6'3 and 245 pounds. But he's not a heavyweight? Bizarre.

I think prime Lucic vs prime Domi would be good.

Grimson, Kocur, Williams I think would beat Lucic but it would be fairly close I bet.

Probert, though. I think he wins against anyone.

I would have liked to see prime Gillies vs Lucic.

WHen you have a fight card as a teenager/20 year old inlcuding Erskine, Boulton, Chris Neil, Ivanans, Boll, and Brookbank and hold your own against pretty much any of them, youre a heavyweight. By the time he was 25 there were barely even any heavyeights left for him to fight

There's lots to keep in mind too. Back then jerseys came off quicker than ever. Right now you can't have that luxury of your tarp coming off and fighting as freely. Lots of guys back then ended up in their t-shirts 5 seconds into a fight.

I was a kid/teenage back in the 80s/90s ... but I never considered Wendel Clark to be a heavy weight fighter.

Probert/grimson/twist/berube/mcsorely they were heavy weight fighters. One job = fight.

Wendel Clark/Dale Hunter/scott stevens/neely etc were tough ass dudes but were there to play hockey

------------------------

Odd seeing Wendel Clark being talked about as the "best fighter ever" .. when he wasnt even a fighter fighter.

You know who could really swing 'em was Carl Racki (George Finn).

Back in the good old days where you took your tarps off for a scrap!!

Are you serious? You think Lucic could take Clark?

That’s … wow. That would put Lucic into the Probert category. Clark gave Probert a few really good matches
Yes, I do. I think you’re selling prime Lucic short.
