LT's Auction Game v5 - Rules and Discussion

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

In the meantime, feel free to join our Discord Server

Rules
  • The objective is to build the best team for the 2024-25 season.
  • Salary cap: 100M
  • Minimum bid: 1M
  • Bids must be made in 0.1M increments
  • You can bid on as many players as you want.
  • You cannot decrease a bid once it has been submitted.
  • Each day a group of players will be released around 9pm EST. You will have 24 hours to submit your offers for each player (nothing else besides the highest money matters). Each player will sign to the highest bidder at the end of the 24 hours, at which time the next grouping will be released.
  • There will be 10 days worth of bidding for each GM to build their 20 man roster (12F, 6D, 2G), followed by voting. Each day will have on average 2 players per team. If you want, you may go up to a 23 man roster. No more than 14F, 7D, and 3G are allowed per team.
  • Players who receive no bids will be temporarily removed from the game. They may be made available after all initial days of bidding are complete.
  • Buy-outs: If you want to get rid of a player you won, you can do this up to 3 times per game. There will be a corresponding cap penalty. The penalty scales with the player's cap hit. At the low end, a player with a 1M cap hit will have a 10% (.1M) cap penalty applied if bought out. At the high end, a player with a 10M cap hit will have a 100% (10M) cap penalty applied. Anything over a 10M cap hit results in a 100% penalty. If you are interested in the formula, I can share this separately.
  • Buy outs can not be made until after Day 7 results have been posted.
  • Cap hits are rounded with a ceiling function to the nearest .1M. For example, 5.11M and 5.19M are both rounded to 5.2M.
  • There are formulaic protections in place to prevent you from going over 26 players (max of 23 roster players + 3 bought out players) and 110M in total cap hits. This does not guarantee that you can maneuver your way out of going over the cap. These protections are put in place to protect you from busting but are not foolproof. Additionally, this may result in some of your bids being voided. This will go in order of players listed on the forms if necessary.
  • Ties: In the event of a tied bid, I will ask each person involved in the tie what is the maximum bid they are willing to do. Whoever re-bids higher will get the player. Each person in the re-bid will have the 24 hours to re-bid on that player, but the player will sign as soon as all people involved reply. If neither person involved in the tie bid is willing to up their offer at all, I will flip a coin.
  • Players available played at least one NHL game during the 2024-2025 regular season. A handful of exceptions will be made for exceptional prospects and injured players. I am happy to take requests on players being added, but there is no guarantee just by asking they will be included.
  • *all rules are subject to change*
  • *my discretion will be used as needed*
  • Shoutout to m0pe for drafting the original ruleset!

My schedule is pretty variable now so the times the forms open and close won't always be the same. I'll make sure to keep it open for at least 20 hours each time and do my best to keep it right around 24 hours. If you have any issues with this, let me know and I'll do what I can to adjust.

Let me know if you need help with the form process or have any questions - happy to answer and help!

Please do NOT reveal your team name! And especially don't reveal your code word

Adding to the ties: if the tie is under 3M, there will be no rebidding and I will simply
flip a coin to determine who wins that player. Settling ties is too much effort to do it for depth players.

And since I apparently need to make this reminder:

Minimum bid is 1M. Anything less will be bumped up to this.

With 25 teams, I have to get a bit creative with playoffs and voting. Seven teams will earn a first round bye, leaving nine first round matchups. Round two will then feature eight matchups, round three four matchups, and so on until a winner is crowned.

One team has twice as much cap space remaining as any other team. Due to their savviness and penny-pinching, they have earned themselves a bye. That team is...

:sens

The remaining 24 teams will be split into 4 divisions of 6 teams each. You all will rank the teams in each division. Teams will earn points based on these rankings (6 for 1st, 5 for 2nd, 1 for 6th, etc). The leading team in each division will earn a bye. I apologize for not including the rosters in the form - I'm burnt out after running the whole thing and took the lazy way out. Please reference the roster thread. I will include posts on the 2nd page where each post features the entire division.

Finally, there will also be a guessing game. I apologize in advance for the absurdity of this form. The two GMs (that haven't already earned a bye) who correctly guess the most teams right will earn first round byes as well.

Please try to have these done by Saturday morning. I may start pestering people by Friday night if they don't participate or have a great reason for not doing so.
