Montreal projected to have roughly 11 million in caproom this offseason. Minus carry over bonuses to Slaf and Hutson, gives them roughly 8 million. Struble and Heineman will get slight increase. So we should have ballpark 7 million in caproom for next season. Doesn't leave a ton of money to fix two glaring holes in team.

Should we trade Carry Price contract after July 1? Will give us 18 million to spend this summer. If we don't we allowed to go over 10% yes. but need to be cap complient by opening night. Then put Price on LTIR. However, Montreal been hesitant to do this in past seasons because a lot of negatives to it.

There's three reasons. First if we trade Price and go under the cap at start of season gives us much more caproom at trade deadline. Because capspace is pro-rated. Secondly, Montreal also has potential of 5 million in bonuses next year. I think Demidov has bonus of 3m alone. Then Hutson and possible 500k bonus to Reinbacher if he plays so many games next year. Which could carry over into 2026-27 season if we maxed out at start of season. Final reason is we can't go over the full 10.5m caphit of Price's contract. If we 2 million under, we lose the 2 million in LTIR at start of season.

On July 1st, Montreal pays 5 million bonus to Price, making Carey Price salary only 2.5m for its last year. Plus it's insured. So there is no financial costs to acquiring team. For a team looking to get to cap floor we should be able to move Price's contract without giving up much.

I think the Habs fully intend to trade Price's contract this summer if they can find a team willing to take it without Montreal needing to add much, if anything, as incentive. They just need to find a team struggling to reach the cap floor.

Montreal be asking for a trade similar to Utah sending Weber to Chicago last summer. Black Hawks traded a 5th rounder for Weber and a fringe prospect. We could trade Price and a prospect like Farrell for a 4th rounder.

If Carey gets moved, then I think it's fairly certain a big contract is either being traded to us shortly thereafter or we have some inside info on a free agent making their way here when the time comes.

Possibly. Or it could be something as simple as Price's contract for future considerations. It just depends on whether all teams are able to reach the cap floor or not. If all can reach the floor, it will probably be a small cost to move the contract. If not, then a team would be grateful to take the contract to avoid any cap penalties.

Might do future considerations on draft floor. Allow us to make a move and trade Price few days later after bonus paid

I would expect Price gets traded this summer. I would guess after his signing bonus is paid both because even the bottom teams will want to try their hand on the UFA market and second there is probably some real money in terms of insurance premiums that makes it relevant. Though I have little understanding of how insurance works for NHL contracts.

I would expect a trade to more likely happen several days after July 1st. At that point not only will Price's bonus have been paid, but the potential suitors will know where they stand with regards to the cap floor since the UFA signing period begins on 7/1, too.

Trading Price's contract makes perfect sense..............once he gets paid his bonus, the other team is only on the hook for 2.5M and gives them a 10.5M cap hit.............it's great to help them make the floor as others have stated.

Very little doubt we going to trade Price. As we only have 7 million in caproom if we keep him.

Original plan was to let him ride out the season and finish his career a Hab. But with our success last season Montreal is in a position to contend next year.
