Speculation: Loyalty

if knies gets overpaid, and then fails to live up to those expectations, I don't even know what to say. I might actually become a casual fan because this team isn't worth even a second of the fans time

if he gets 8-9m long term, or 6-7 on short term, he better give us ppg and 65+ paces in the playoffs, otherwise he can join the core 4 in being all about the money and can gtfo.

He is the scapegoat for everything negative to do with the team why would he be loyal to a team or fanbase who was never loyal to him?

If, when Marner leaves it will be because he was treated poorly

Maybe if he (and Paul) hadn't held out for every penny and actually gave a damn when it matters most, he wouldn't be the scapegoat.

Loyalty is like respect.

You need to earn it to get it. Players who are loyal to the team should be rewarded. The team in turn should be loyal to them.

Mercenaries should be treated as such.

Hired guns who whore themselves out for the best offer deserve no loyalty. The only thing they're loyal to is their bank account. They don't respect the team or the city.

Therefore aren't deserving of any back.

It's easy to tell who the players are that actually want to play for their team. It shows in virtually everything they do or say. They're constantly making small personal sacrifices on a regular basis for the betterment of the rest of the roster.

Those are the players who deserve loyalty and respect.

'Scapegoat' implies taking blame for others while innocent himself. I don't think that applies to the player who was the most overpaid and the worst (relative) playoff performer while also the worst at being interviewed.

I don't think he's been disloyal, he hasn't mislead anyone and has remained consistent with his actions.
He for the most part earned his contract. As the 4th highest paid, led the Team in scoring by 20 points while playing in all situations. Playoffs have been a let down for sure but they are all in that boat.
Treated unfairly and poorly, no doubt when compared to the others but we don't have the sharpest fanbase, many judge too many things by what they see/hear from the media.

Surely the contrast between blue and red bolded text won’t be lost on the Reader.

actually imo you mis-read the question that poster asked.

see the last year part? meaning 23-24 season. he's comparing Stamkos 23-24 season to Guentzel's 24-25 season and saying that Guentzel wasn't an improvement. nor did he take them anywhere in the playoffs.
In 23-24 season Stamkos had 40 goals and 81 points, Tampa lost in the first round to Florida.

In 24-25 Guentzel had 41 goals and 80 points, Tampa lost in the first round to Florida.
