I wonder what a success in Montreal would be then, all 4 games were soldout.Tickets in Boston are selling at projections
Montreal looks to be a disaster

The only article I could find was pre-event, estimates are less than the 2016 World Cup which was about 110mHow much is the NHL going to make off of this?
I was a skeptic at first but I think for as long as Russia isn't going to be allowed to compete internationally, 4 Nations is likely the best possible format for the NHL. Given that Finland, Sweden, USA, and Canada currently are the only other countries that can field a team of NHLers, its the best case scenario for best on best given the North American Friendly times and by passing the after thought games of Canada vs Switzerland.
International tournaments should not have series in elimination games. Single elimination builds up so much hype since it is an all or nothing game.Yes, Olympic hockey is bad because we have so many pushovers.
But I think you could add Czechs to to 4 nations...and more games, best of three final?
The issue with Czechia right now is there aren't enough defensemen in the league. Last I checked, there's only four Czech defensemen in the league, and only 28 players total. That leaves no room for injuries. As representation grows though, I'd love to see it, but right now it's just not possible to ice a full roster.Yes, Olympic hockey is bad because we have so many pushovers.

Of course, NHL probably won't see any of the mark up on resale tickets.

There aren't enough NHL players to fill out more than 6 nations. Already as it is, some have a very shallow pool of players. NHL would need to work out a deal with other leagues to release their players which i don't see happening without IIHF involvement.Well they already announced a proper 8 team World Cup so.

I realize that this could be sarcasm but really how often do we tune in to watch Germany vs Switzerland in Olympic Hockey. Don't get me wrong I like best on best but a true best on best won't happen for political reasons for years.
I'm agnostic about the Czechs though. Up until 10 years ago I would have said they should be apart of this for sure but their talent development has fallen off of a cliff. The same could be said for Slovakia.
Still if we were to have only 6 teams what would the format look like? Could you have 2 pools of 3 followed up a 4 team playoff? The NHL is going to want a format that wraps up the whole thing in a week and a half.
True. The elephant in the room is what to do with Russia if the war in Ukraine continues. True best on best would include Russia rather than someone like Latvia as a stand in. But does Canada vs Latvia sell tickets in September? I personally doubt that it would.
