Imo it’s a glorified Allstar game. It will be “soft, no juice hockey. It’s not surprising tickets are a hard sell.I know here in Europe the tourney is viewed as a joke and insult to other nations
Not to mention a stupid needless interruption in the middle of the seasonImo it’s a glorified Allstar game. It will be “soft, no juice hockey. It’s not surprising tickets are a hard sell.
I love it when the question is it's own answer!I mean they weren't actually expecting to move a lot of tickets for this event, were they? Because that would be pretty low IQ
Or not at all. I’ve always despised these dumb international tournies. Yes, this is league run, but we already have the best tournament in all of sports…the Stanley Cup playoffs. Not to mention a stupid needless interruption in the middle of the season
They should do this type of nonsense on their own time
Good! When it comes to establishing a international tournament with broad appeal, the NHL (and PA) have been their own worst enemy. In general the league's international strategy (assuming they have one) has been pretty disjointed over the years.
Regarding the lack of buzz regarding the 4 Nations specifically... I dunno, there hasn't been a best-on-best tournament in nearly a decade (some might argue longer) so maybe there is a "out of site, out of mind" thing at play... Also, while out of site, the sport has also apparently shrunk to the point that only 4 countries are now worthy of participating. Once things get to that point I start to wonder why even bother at all?
I think unless this thing creates some legit buzz/momentum for the league in the US, it will be another ~decade before we see another international tournament organized by the league/PA.
They just have spread the tournament out over more cities so each game would feel more like an event in the local market. I bet a market like Winnipeg or Halifax would have sold out a Sweden-Finland. Montreal is a good Habs market but a mediocre hockey market. Look at what happened when they and Toronto jointly hosted the Word Juniors. Montreal attendances to games were terrible.Tickets in Boston are selling at projections
Montreal looks to be a disaster
Not sure how I ended up quoting myself
