1. Anywhere you live, even in a great neighborhood, there can be an isolated pocket that is a bad block or two. That said, the swankier the area, the less likely that is.
2. Never lived in Brookyn. Went to college in the heights. Have gotten around a bit but not to Bushwick. The rep is uneven trending bad but not like Bed Stuy rep bad. A college chum relocated there, says things are copacetic enuf, but this is an older guy, not a neophyte "young girl" who may not be street savy,
3. The L is usually running and reliable, but time is $$$. If it is doable, Manhattan or closer to is better than other boro or further away.
4. The alt is to go further out and travel into nyc.
