1x all star, 16 seasons, over 1k games but it'll always be this for me:

Always thought this pic looked like something Caravaggio would paint.

Shame that he is remembered by his poor play during his last few years.

Loui was elite during his entire tenure with the Stars. One of the better two way forwards in the game at the time.
To add to this, his top 3 scoring finishes are 19th, 20th, 23rd, which I think is better than most people would expect.

It wouldn't surprise me if you told me those were his 3 best years in Canucks points when contrasted against his teammates.

He was a lazy POS in Vancouver.

With JT Miller no longer on the Nucks, Loui lost the reason to strive for a comeback, sad but when the GOAT leaves, you gotta move on.

Such an inconsistent career. Really enjoyed watching him during his Dallas years. Was never the same player after his back to back concussions in 2013, although he had a couple nice seasons with the Bruins.

At his best he was a very good two-way player and highly intelligent on the ice. At his worst he half-assed shifts and was ineffective. GMs seemed to really believe in him based on the contracts they gave him.

thanks for a good summary and a fair post.

I had no idea people hated Loui Eriksson until this thread.

Very weird to me - i hate dirty, prick players like Cooke or Torres. Can't imagine having the amount of hate in me that it would take to hate..... Loui Eriksson... a half decent, clean player who had a pretty good early career that fizzled out quickly and who the media, as far as i know, never promoted one way or the other.... weird.

Although, Kyle Wellwood...... oooof that little sob really makes my blood boil!!

Enjoy retirement Christian Bale lite.

If it isn't that pic above, I've always remembered he kinda looked like he could pass as Christian Bale's bro or something.

Now now. Benning also gave Poolman 10m for 43 games played. Also Ferland got 14m for 16 games

Ferland's career was shortened by concussions. Unlike some of the others, it wasn't for a lack of trying. IIRC, he career ended when he came back from a concussion, only to get another in quick succession by into a fight to defend a teammate.

I still have a soft spot for Ferdaddy and I thought his rise to the NHL was a great feel good story. He doesn't deserver to have his name thrown into the mix of guys that just mailed it in later in their careers.

Most of any hate comes from Vancouver fans it seems. Not going to see much or any hate from Dallas and Boston fans. Loui was one of the more underrated and most versatile players in the NHL with Dallas -- skilled and relentless. The hate likely boils down to the awful contract the GM of Vancouver gave him.

A guy with a concussion history getting a 6-year contract for very good money at that time, starting when he was 31 yrs old. Bizarre. Loui always seemed like a really good dude, who clearly was affected by the concussions. Any hate should be directed at the GM for handing out such a stupid contract. Free agency has a habit of making GMs make some bizarre decisions.
