I think this is worth having its own thread. He was more transparent about things then he normally is, we are entering a retool, there would have been more moves if we got younger players + draft picks, didn’t want to totally give up on the players in the room, Malkin involved all the way.

I’m getting the vibe he won’t be around much longer.

I don't understand his logic about not wanting draft picks, draft picks eventually become players or at the least you can trade those picks for players, he also more or less said Malkin is involved in the decisions, that leads me to think Malkin is I am sure influencing the decision to try and stay competitive instead of going for a "re-tool"

I liked what Lou had to say but the proof will be what happens in the off season. I never thought any of the defensemen would be moved at the deadline. They would need to be moved at the draft once teams figure out their cap situation. Lee and Pageau can be moved at the draft or next trade deadline. IMO the only lost opportunity was Palms. Given his poor defensive ability and high shooting percentage I see a declining player that would return a 3rd. Nice to have but won’t move the needle. I’m ok with Palms not being signed at this point.

That was maybe my favorite part of the interview. The way he said it's basically crazy if anyone thinks there's a GM in any of the 4 major sports who does not have to discuss things with their boss. I've always said the owners are involved in decisions (because it's their money and their team) around here and people are always putting that idea down. Does an owner say yes or no to Calum Ritchie? No. But do they sign off on major money decisions or whether a team tears it down or tries to stay playoff competitive? Duh. Of course they do.
