Lou Lamoriello

Every 7 or 8 years a Lou team manages to get past round one. Most people don't get that much rope.
Round three back to back. 20 and 21. Lost conference finals in game 7, 1-0 to Cup Champs.
Bergeron had a decade of losing in Montreal.
Traveling won 3 rounds in 9 seasons in Calgary before Toronto hired him. ha!
Shanahan one round in 10 years.
Just to name a few that lasted longer than Lou while winning less than Lou.
NHL old boys club. You can dine out for quite awhile going to 5 finals, winning 3 Cups.

Since when is a mess of a franchise that hasn't won't anything since before the original Woodstock the barometer for literally anything???

And correction....Barry Trotz won more rounds than the Maple Leafs. Without Trotz, Lou is exposed for the most overrated hockey executive that he is.

Who hired Trotts one day after he left Caps.

A tale of two Lou's. The difference between his performance as a hockey executive before the '04-'05 lockout and after the '04-'05 lockout is pretty wild.

The initial years after the lockout were alright, granted some hiccups with the Mogilny/Malakhov contracts off the hop.

2005-06: 101 points (won division)
2006-07: 107 points (won division)
2007-08: 99 points (2nd in division)
2008-09: 106 points (won division)
2009-10: 103 points (won division)
2010-11: 81 points (Murphy's law first half with injuries, pretty good second half)
2011-12: 102 points (won Conference)

That was a pretty good stretch relatively speaking. Years of bad drafts and Parise/Kovalchuk leaving in quick succession put them in a bad spot after 2012.

I feel like the islanders have been a middling/first round exit team for a decade and a half. I thought Lou was supposed to come in and flip that script. In reality, he has just continued the script. And I’m not even sure what moves he’s made that we’re suppose to have propelled the franchise.

You're right - No other GM would've hired a hall of fame coach when he became available because his previous team refused to meet his salary demands.

Oh and who fired Trotz after back to back semi-final runs and replaced him with Lane Lambert (and now Patrick Roy)?

to be fair, Lou had the Isles Middling with two back to back semi final runs in 6 years.
