And 16 of 32 is the lowest percentage of teams making the playoffs. So it's the hardest it's ever been.
Seriously. The NHL introduced the 16 team playoff format when there were 21 teams. Only 5 teams missed the playoffs every year.

If you're whining about how easy it is to make the playoffs now... I mean, seriously, what the hell. Gretzky and co were routinely beating up on teams the same caliber as the Coyotes or Sabres in the 1st round.

At this point it would be silly for him not to win the Smythe even if Florida still wins. We all know he's been by far the best player in these playoffs breaking likely two records with a chance for more. Sure that's not how it's normally awarded, but he's lapping the field and may finish with double the points of anyone on Florida while playing a 200 foot game
