The Old Testament is real history on the politics of the region.

Yes a 'literal interpretation' is one thing but no actual historian would discard it as a first hand account, you have events like the struggle against the Assyrians that are record on both sides. And all the fire & brimstone speech was more or less how things were recorded in the region at the time.

As for flood myths, there's also an extended period of time where the old ice age was ending and water levels started rising, with habital land slowly becoming reclaimed by the sea. That's going to freak people out and leave a long lasting impression.

I think the argument is being made that the actual flood didn't happen gradually but from a few massive events that forever changed the planet. If meteors did hit the ice caps that would have caused those catastrophic events. We know that people have been tracking the stars for thousands of years and probably could tell when these events would occur. At the onset of the younger dryas there could have been strikes that forced people into the caves. Like the shoemaker Levi 9 strikes on Jupiter earth could have been bombarded.

Questions arise with the actual dating of the Sphinx and the creation of Gobekli Tepe and what the conditions were surrounding the people who built them.

It rained for 40 days and 40 nights. Sounds a lot like there was a massive amount of water in the atmosphere to cause that to happen. Ice, vapour being ejected so violently into the atmosphere could be the cause of it.
