The previous draft years focused heavily on highly-touted defensive prospects like
Drew Doughty,
Slava Voynov,
Thomas Hickey, and
Colten Teubert, and at least one buried gem in Alec Martinez. However, the Kings shifted to toughness and versatility up front with a selection of seven forwards and one defender who turned forward with their 10 selections in 2009.
