GDT: Los Angeles Kings at Toronto Maple Leafs - December 14, 2014 - 2:00 p.m. (PST)

With the Kings now 1-5-2 on the road against Eastern teams, you take the point on the road and live with it, since they're averaging well below a point per game on the road against teams in the East.

They'd better not be out of a playoff spot come the all-star break - history won't be on their side for them to climb back into one.

I meant the mini-Christmas break. Yeah if they're out of it by the allstar break we're gonna have one hell of a firesale

Olympic break saved us last year, hopefully holiday break this year does the same

Right off, I'll admit I'm a Richards fan but if this is how Sutter's gonna use him from here on, then friggin' try and trade him and at least give him a fresh start somewhere.

There's something seriously wrong with this team and my thinking is it has to do with Sutter and some of the decisions he seems to be making in-game. I mean where the hell was Toffoli and Carter in the shoot-out? Brown and Kopitar over them? There's absolutely no reason for this team to lose the way they do (I think they miss Voynov badly) and I worry Sutter may have used up his 3-4 years before he's being tuned out. The facial expressions on the bench tell me more that I need to know.

I don't know why Sutter has this fascination with putting Carter and kopitar together when that hasn't worked and esp when both are in major slumps.
That just wasn't effective. I wonder what the Sutter blender will do to the line by the time the Kings hit St Louis

And Davis Payne made questionable choices on the SO. I am assuming it was him , since the camera showed him with the list prior to the SO and showing it to Sutter. Bad decisions.. and why don't the Kings D get a chance?
Not getting a good feeling for the Blues game...Maybe JW can clone himself 3 times so he can play on every line.

Good: Kings get a point against red hot Leafs. Bad: Kings have won 9 of last 23 after starting 6-1-1.

Deano must not be happy.

agree. He lost faith in Richards last spring and it's showing. He gets very little speciality teams work, and rarely is used in OT. Tonight he got 1 shift with 30 seconds left and didn't even finish that.
ANd the odd thing is that his stats are great this year, which that Bleacher Report Article cited a few days ago,(below) how he's been very effective , esp in defensive zone starts and he's there best 4:5 player .

A player who allows the fewest shot attempts, fewest shots and second-fewest goals should log a decent chunk of short-handed ice time, right? Not under Sutter's watch.

But Sutter just doesn't trust him and had mismanaged his minutes. I am a bit disappointed that DL hasn't had any input in it and since it's clear he's giving Sutter full creedance on those decisions , they should trade him
But based on the stats in the article, they can't because they'd be lost without him, he's been that effective. It' sad to think his only shot at a reg shift in the top 9 and getting Special teams work back is if JS, JC or AK get hurt and Sutter has not choice and that is not likely to happen
DL should do the right thing and that the Offer from Montreal, who have been asking about MR since July.

A good article which breaks down, using the stats and data from hockey anaylsis .com and behind the net to illustrate how good Richards has been and how poorly Sutter has used him.

The Kings have won 9 of their last 23. The wheels started falling off some time ago. I wouldn't be pushing the panic button just yet, but the problem with the panic button is by the time you're ready to push it, it's usually too late.

Their possession #'s are FAR better of late, which is one of the few positives and an indicator that they'll be soon turning things around. If the fancy stats weren't good, I would be hitting the panic button now.

Can Kopitar struggle any harder? Falls down, flubs passes, can't find the puck in his skates, and misses the net 1 vs. 1 on a goalie! Hope he's in the lowest depth of struggle hell cuz it may even look worse come January.

No argument here. We're 2012ing hard.

I'm getting a different feeling this year though. This team doesn't have the bounce back mentality I sense it had before and being Stanley Cup champions just puts a huge target on your back. Opposing teams are putting out huge efforts to try and win and you have to expect that when you're champion. Unless Kopitar gets out of his funk soon and Sutter starts making some decent in-game decisions with some inherent consistency, this run is over I'm afraid.

Gotta try and get him going somehow.

True. That crossed my mind as to Sutter's reason for doing it. But in that case, I would've had him go first instead of putting the most the most relative pressure on him sending him in last.

Would've rather seen TT and Pearson in the shootout than Kopitar and Gaborik right now.

Someone will definately reaching for one soon if they continue to lose on the road. Our pk is a dreadful 74 pct and our pp is a stunning 11 pct. Oh btw, the team we lost to at the start of the roadtrip 1-0 has a pp pct at 6 pct...6 pct !

The only thing preventing us from being further out of the playoff spot is the teams above us are losing too, with the exception of the Sharks.. 2 wins would've put us back in 3rd place.

It's not like the Kings played well when they started the season 6-1-1. The 70's were scoring 2 goals a game, and Quick had a .975+sv%.

Not getting a good feeling for the Blues game

No reason to have a good feeling about it. You know the Blues will come out with something to prove. They should've won the first time they played the Kings this year. You never know what Kings team will show up. They could get run out of the building as easy as win the game.

That's a valid point and something that should have alerted DL early on. Even Jones helped out recently by stealing some W's. And God help them if Doughty gets hurt, nobody on the team comes close to doing what he does close to 30 min a game, they'd be done.
Not taking advantage of banking points fhru this part of the year, throwing games away could really hurt them.

Oh well...Eagles Cowboys are on, hopefully the Eagles kick some Dallas butt tonight

If the Kings can't get up for the Blues then it's either the time for a player's only meeting or a DL visit to the locker room. If that doesn't do it them something is gotta happen to the roster. It's time to use that cap space to get some kids up.

Sutter's whole interview was basically "whatever"

..well, except for the part that he says we're basically playing as well as we can and it's tough to win in these buildings. At least he goes on to say that doesn't really justify losing, and you can't lose and say 'that's ok.' But this is getting pathetic and harder to watch with each passing game.

Yep, we are firmly entering Terry Murray Fired territory.

Of course, it doesn't matter what kids are brought up / trades are made if our best players aren't our best players.

Jesus I hope not. He looks pretty dismal out there. Makes me long for Stumpel...

I'm reaching for the panic button, but I'm not gonna press it yet. I thinks this SV thing is throwing the team off. Our breakouts are different, our rhythm or lack thereof is different.
