GDT: Looks Like My Luck Is Needed Oilers @ Kraken

Boy that lineup makes me want to have eye surgery again.

Holy shit that is decade of darkness bad.

You talking about defence or forward?

That forward lineup hasn't been a problem for a second since 97 and 29 went down. Although Ekholm/Boucahrd/Nurse might look good on paper, they have been individually terrible since the injuries, and have as much to do with the L's as Skinner. Forwards are the least of my concerns.

Man the oilers goaltending chatter is finally getting out of control. There is no fking way bowman and Jackson can defend this garbage anymore the way everyone is finally talking about it now

Amy updates from stayffer today on skinners inability to make a stop

When the Oilers lost to Vegas, Stuart should have been packaged for an actual starting goalie. It shouldn't have gone this far.

Stauffer's show starts at 4 but I'll save you the anticipation and say he's going to make another howler of an appeal to "patience" with Skinner the way he did when he kept describing Nichushkin's career arch when he talked about Puljujarvi's struggles in Edmonton.

Stauffer and the hockey big brains like Gregor and Rishaug are complete suckers for the sunk cost fallacy too.

You are STILL giving them too much credit. They are aware Skinner has stunk all year they're just simply propagandists repeating the opinion they're told to have.

As soon as the Oilers lose to the Kings they will all immediately about face to "Skinner isn't and never was good enough"

This current Oilers team has 4 defensemen who are all better than anyone the team had between Visnovsky and Sekera.

Kulak might have been the best defender on some of those teams.
Even this "terrible" forward group without, ya know, two of the best players in the world and down another top 6 forward and middle 6 forward played well in their last 2 games. It's not even close to Decade of Darkness bad but @KeithIsActuallyBad is on one of his annual I hate everything about this organization binges so....we get these kind of posts A LOT.

Holland, to his credit, very clearly identified goaltending as a need and attempted to address the problem every year he was in charge.

To his detriment he mostly struck out and the one time he didn't he surrendered a triple play.

This Forward lineup is reminiscent of WHA versions of the club.

Poor Corey Perry is all I have to say. Actually I have a lot more but I wanna stop...

I think it's time to rest Mr pizza 74 until at least July! Could OR actually be worse, I say no.

Idk man. We outplayed Dallas yesterday and put up like 44 shots against them (without McDrai). During the Decade of Darkness, I remember getting routinely outplayed by the opposition. It was like we were an AHL team playing against NHL teams. Remember that game we played against San Jose and they put up 60 shots on Scrivens? That’s how bad our team was back then lol. This is way better (and I’m very down on the team right now. We aren’t winning jack shit this year barring a surprise goaltending effort from Pickard/Rodrigue/Skinner)
Not for nothing but a lot of how the game went was a case of score effects and one team being desperate about the game and the other not. The Stars disposition to this game was fully displayed in first period. They weren't even matching effort, speed, work rate. They settled into the game slowly, which they knew they could, and played only one hard period, the 2nd, which I said they would. Stars often are very guilty of not bringing a 60 minute effort, or even a 40minute effort. Last night was one of those nights.

Fact of the matter is the game was in no way important for Dallas whose 2nd place finish is assured, but the game has ramifications for the Oilers.

Last night to their credit I guess the Oilers were working harder than the stars but why they were is quite clear.

Careful, this sort of radical thinking might get you into trouble. ;)

But otherwise I agree. I saw the chart posted of the xGF and it spiked for the Oilers as desperation set in. They were score effects as you indicated.

Articles like this is why I seldom pay any attention to blog media, or any media about this club. Its just pure confectionary glazing.

"The Oilers played a great game"

This game would've been awful to be in attendance at for any of the first 50mins or so. The only people in the building were those kids in lower corner jumping up and down all game, oblivious to the game, trying to get the wave going. ( I was laughing like nobody is gonna be doing the wave)

This was a game and event where the end made the sum of the game seem different than it was.

This was a home game in which the Opponent barely showed up. A game that was lost by goaltending, as per usual, that left fans staring at 4-0. Oilers got back into the game if only due to near constant PP's and the Stars completely stopped skating.

All the media following this club are just glazing over real issues with this team. The description of the game is selling a different story than what it was like to actually watch this game. To me anyway a few mins of scoring joy at the end didn't make up for the putrid goaltending on display.

Like really who thought "WOW" after this game? Nobody I know. Nobody on this board.

I didn't watch the game but seen since highlites. The hit on skinner didn't even look like much. He barely touched him tbh. Now i know goalie helmet nothing like players with padding but it's Skinner possibly had enough himself avs now he all of a sudden has an injury???

I’d be surprised if Rodrigues plays at all in any game down stretch even if Skinner is out for a bit.
He might have to. We’ve been told for a while that Pickard isn’t capable of a heavy workload. Not sure about you but I have complete trust that Oilers management knows what they’re talking about when it comes to goaltending. They’ve got an impeccable track record.:sarcasm:

Can't even blame Rantanen on the play. Skinner was in process of doing his full faceplant or something, nobody even knows. Skinner got whacked by Rants knee. Whats Skinner even doing there? Nobody even knows.

Need to give credit where credit due. Swap goalies and it's 4-0 Oilers going into the 3rd. Skinner sucked ass yet again.

Sure. But again the article is talking it up as a wow experience when really it wasn't that. Honestly a lot of people were saying they were turning the game off. I think half the board didn't even watch third period. I did, but I didn't have anything better to do. lol I suspected Dallas were going to bend. The late penalty on Kap in 2nd period was even foreshadowing. At 4-0 Dallas had already stopped skating. I watch them a fair bit so recognize when they are going to sleep. It was a one period game played by Dallas. Really pretty poor effort level overall.
