Looking for a new helmet...

I have had a BauerHH1000L with a cage for 10-15 years now..I used it in minor hockey and recently for no contact scrub hockey..Its done the job although my head does get warm pretty fast..as I am getting older I want the equipment to do most of the work for me so any recommendations...I see most of the higher end helmets have a vent on the top/front along with vents along the back.. I have been looking at models online for a few weeks now .. I don't really care much for protection..I just want something lightweight with great ventilation..

Long story short should I finally take the plunge and invest the $100-200 for a modern one or stick to shaving my head every week for that extra bit of stamina with my old 1000L

No need to spend $100-200...

You need to try them all on as each helmet fits differently. Most adjust for length, although a few of the top end helmets have a dial in the back which makes it bigger/smaller all around like a ball cap.

Personally I use a Reebok 4k. Ventilation is pretty good on the ice, a little warmer on the bench. It's pretty much the same thing as a CCM V08, which is really popular in the NHL. Easton S9 and Bauer 5100 are all equivalent helmets. None of them cost more than $60-70.
 
I have top of the line Easton and Bauer helmets. Bauer fits better but it's heavier and much hotter. I've gone back and forth, but I'm probably going to stick with the Bauer.
 
FWIW, I've heard the Bauer 4500 touted as one of the lightest helmets available. It feels lighter in my hand than my 1500, but it isn't all that noticeable to me when I am wearing it.
 
I've been using the Reebok 6K for about a year. Been pretty happy with the weight (it was super light without the cage), but I can't really comment about the ventilation compared to your old helmet. I will say that just like Jarick, I don't notice any heat issues while skating, but it does feel a little warm on the bench.

I think the 6K is basically like the 7K in Reebok's current production.

Probably best to try some different helmets on. I bought the Reebok thinking it would fit similar to my JOFA 690, and it did.

Not to sound picky, but careful how you word that. They all fit differently, but I'm assuming you mean that Bauer fits you the best and not overall in general.

Definitely best to try on all the brands and find one that fits the best. The Bauer 1000 had pretty small vents so maybe that's why you're noticing the heat. The 2100 would be this year's equivalent and the venting is hugely improved over the 1000/1500.
 
The 4500 combo is $90 without tax(Thunder Bay, ONT).. The 5100 is the same price without the cage but has that forehead vent so it would be about $150 with cage.. Think it would be a noticeable difference heatwise? or are they pretty much the same as my 1000L

Sorry, yes, meant to infer that it fits me better. I have, however, heard other S19 wearers say they had trouble getting the helmet to fit just right, due to the very limited adjustability of it.

I have the new top of the line Bauer (5100?) and it is a hot helmet. Hotter than my old Bauer and hotter than the Easton. I still prefer the Bauer though. Tons of adjustability, wraps my head better, and at least appears to be more protective than the Easton. I'm sure the Easton is fine, but it is so insanely thin and light that I always have a hard time believing that it really offers that much protection.
 
I have a 4500 and our team gets ccm v10's next weekend. The 4500 is extremely light, simple, and generally a great helmet that is cheap. We tried on the v10's and they are a little bit heavier but way more comfortable and seem like a better fitting helmet.

Honestly I'd grab the 4500.

The 5100 and 4500 are both upgrades on your 1000, both ventilation-wise and protection wise. If you're not playing contact hockey and the 4500 fits better than the 5100, the 4500 is an amazing deal.
 
I will probobly go try on and pick up a 4500 tommorow..I never noticed how many nhl players wore one until I started looking specifically for it..Malkin wears one..and I saw it on a few players on tonights jets game

I just started playing again indoors last January with full equipment..I still had all my gear from when I was younger but now the only thing I still use from when I was younger is my elbow pads..Everything I have is so light and breathable..definitely seen an improvement in my game.. I feel like I am cheating
