Not much hockey going on so I was looking at the Jets moves last off season and I just thought I would grade them with hindsight...

After Bowness retired, Chevy promoted Arnie and actually let him hire his own assistants!!!! Whooooooda thunk?
This move looks like an A or A+ move so far.

In the draft Chevy had a 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 6th. Freij, He, Loponen and Walton.
I give this draft an A for what picks he had to work with.

Buys out Schmidt and re-signs DeMelo. He saw what had to be done with Schmidt and did it. He re-signed DeMelo a bit too high in my opinion but with the cap going up, it's not that mush of an overpay. Chevy also added Coghlan and Fleury in free agency. Good moves to shore up the depth on D.
This gets a B- because I think Demelo's contract is a bit high and not moving Schmidt.

Loses Dillon, LB, Toffoli and Monahan to free agency. We are in first but we could still use Dillon; however, I wouldn't give him the term he got. Same goes for Monahan, too long of a deal for too much. No way we could afford LB and no big loss in TT.
I give it a B- because of losing Dillon on the back end and losing a 2C you paid a first for.

Signed Comrie and Kahkonen. Comrie has been a very pleasant surprise and Kahkonen a disappointment.
This gets a B for getting a dependable backup at a very low cost for two years.

Re-signed Miller to a 2 x 1.5m deal.
B+ for getting a dependable 3RHD at a reasonable cost. It's not his fault Arnie doesn't play him more.

Re-signed Stanley to a 2 x 1.25m deal. I don't think Stan is a starting NHL D man and would have put him on waivers if I couldn't move him.
That's a D Chevy.

Re-signed Gus, Ville and Lundmark.
C for re-signing some fringeish players.

Almost forgot the trade of McCrier and Yager. Yager is a year younger but is excelling this year while Rugbyhead has struggled playing pro so far.
Flippin' A+ eh???

Signed Perfetti for two years at 3.25m. I wanted a long term deal, but it looks like Chevy was right to hold off and make sure what he's got.
B

Overall I think he did a really good job and a LOT of that work has really paid off this season.
What did I miss as far as moves in the off season?

Don't think you missed anything, as of right now i would say making Arniel coach and Arniel changing the PP coach is two of the biggest and best moves . Jets have 26 games left to play and right now their PP % is sitting at a chance to be the best EVER in the NHL . The Jets have scored the most goals in the league and they have given up the least amount. We are on a 8 game winning streak all without our captain in the lineup as well. This has been a incredible season so far....:naughty:

Monahan was the one the one that got away. CBJ overpaid - but we will have to continue to burn assets to fill that position until one of our young guys take it. Unless Arniel bumps Lowry up of course.

How much would our fanbase hate Henrique? Think it was rumoured 2 year 3.5 million for him. Sometimes Chevy's best moves are not being able to get guys to sign on the dotted line.

Agreed with everyone that the coaching staff is the biggest game changer and is no doubt A+. Draft was impressive for only have 4 picks and the Yager trade continues to age well.

Arniel hiring got a lot of flack and doubt on here... turned out 100%

Henrique deal was a bullet dodged for sure - always wonder what timo meier would have looked like on this team... chevy does not have it easy

Second year in a row heading into a season with a prospect at 2c and then backing off...

Monahan signing would have been solid... but then maybe ehlers doesnt get pp1 time...

McGro would 100% have been in this lineup if he stayed a Jet... cest la vie

On meh is that we seem to be running a full season with substantial cap space... hoping chevy can broker that into some picks at TD but that doesnt seem to be his style

Well Henrique has 15 ES points, 3 less than Namestnikov. He's got great PK metrics. 55% on the draw. Unless you are a simple minded fan that looks at Corsi without looking at zone time usage (Henrique is heavy d-zone) probably would have liked the player and all the elements he solidified, especially faceoffs and PK.

His defensive zone usage may have freed up Lowry for more offense.

The Yager trade is the one that matters because there is no doubt now who the future 2C will be.

I give this draft an A for what picks he had to work with. Agree

B+ - The only real loss was Dillon. Monahan wasn't a good fit, despite what he brought. LB wanted a starter's job so was not retainable. TT was no loss at all.

Signed Comrie and Kahkonen. Comrie has been a very pleasant surprise and Kahkonen a disappointment.
This gets a B for getting a dependable backup at a very low cost for two years. Agree, if Brick continues to play well. Might even have to raise the grade. KK is irrelevant. As long as 1 of them worked, job done.

Re-signed Miller to a 2 x 1.5m deal.
B+ for getting a dependable 3RHD at a reasonable cost. It's not his fault Arnie doesn't play him more. Yup.

Re-signed Stanley to a 2 x 1.25m deal. I don't think Stan is a starting NHL D man and would have put him on waivers if I couldn't move him.
That's a D Chevy. If not moved, signed for 1x1.

Re-signed Gus, Ville and Lundmark.
C for re-signing some fringeish players. Yup

Almost forgot the trade of McCrier and Yager. Yager is a year younger but is excelling this year while Rugbyhead has struggled playing pro so far.

B Yup again

What did I miss as far as moves in the off season? A+ overall

Good evaluation. :thumbu: My evaluations - in red

If Arniel doesn't win the Adams the voters need to be tested, substances, sanity, intelligence, etc.

Should be unanimous.
