What mad sorcery is this?

Emberson needs to wake up. I'd rather Stecher or Klingberg (if healthy?) at this point. His defending has fallen off a cliff and he's all of a sudden added Bouchard level insanely dumb puck play to his game lately as well. If he's going to stink in his own end anyways we may as well have someone there that can make a play with the puck.

I like the thinking in the bottom 6. Perry and Leon seem to have some chemistry, so I like keeping that connection together too. Problem is it remains to be seen how long Perry can sustain the minutes.

It's amazing to me that Corey Perry has been one of the most consistent bottom 6 players. I thought it was a bad resigning and he has given so much value.

He's playing well riding shotgun with Leon too. He's the perfect Leon player. Simple, predictable, effective down low and in front of the net, can make quick plays in tight.

If he was with Leon the whole year and actually was able to sustain the minutes he would likely be comfortably north of 20 goals already. He has 15 basically playing barely any top 6 at all. He can still play and play well, the minutes and the wear and tear being the rub.

The bad habits came from somewhere. Tell me, who makes the worst passes on the team?

I'm all for our stars taking chances when they pay off but the better the opposition it becomes more likely than not those teams will sit back and let the Oil hand them the puck on a silver platter.
Bad habits are invariably compensations to weakest ankles. The worst puck player on the roster is of course Stu Skinner. This means that his D and forwards have to adjust to the unpredictable nature of his puck plays or what he even does with it. Stu also bad with rebounds and where they go and bad corralling pucks so the Oilers have to over compensate to around net coverage and also so cheating to look for puck instead of look around them and what opponents are in vicinity. The Oilers have to mop up a lot when Skinner is in goal, and the D have to make plays with limited time as Skinner does not setup puck movement well. This results in more pucks turned over in initial forecheck vs when having a goalie like Pickard who is adequate playing pucks.

Bad habits are often compensations. Its not like the most dedicated professional athletes just decide to be lazy or not do their job. You get off your game when overcompensating. For instance when trying or having to do too much. The Oilers also play less composed in their game when the look of the game is that they will need 5 goals to win. Nothing kills a gameplan more than unexpected GA.

And who made that rule? One can come along and say if you pick on a player of your team then you are lame ass!

if you have a problem with Skinners keep it to yourself.

Did I do it right?
Are you really this dense, this is an Oilers forum and you’re cheering for an Oilers loss. Wake up.

I guarantee you he's not complaining having these two instead of Podkolzin/Arvidsson.

Agree... it's at least worth a shot. Podkolzin, got love him, but he's not a top-6 player... not now, not ever. If he keeps his work rate high, maybe he can maintain his status as a 3rd liner.

Man... we could really use Kane and Frederic back for this lineup.

Crap goalie shucking for even crappier pizza. Apropos

Price should have been $ 8.97
This is for real?

paywall reader is no longer available to me.

Is there an entire disconnect on what players are most popular here, or are the most important players here, or the best players here? If I'm looking for a rep there'd be a dozen players to go for instead of a Skinner. Or maybe he's just cheap and easy sponsorship. The big easy, kind of like how he is in goal...

It's unfortunate because I feel like if those two dropped into the lineup today it would make a massive difference in all kinds of areas of our play in a good way. We just won't know what that looks like until Game 1 (maybe) unfortunately.

Perry gets a lot of his goals up rotating in topsix. Credit though is he's that rare quantity of older player where the goals haven't dried up. But he can only handle limited minutes. He's more noticeble in present company scoring because so few forwards in the lineup are scoring.

I don't know that Perry has given so much value. Relative to contract price I guess. Relative to taking up roster space you can't have too many pieces in a lineup that only do certain things. Not a knock on Perry, just that we have several incomplete and limited forwards in the lineup.

I'm always a fan of DR, but I have no idea what an old ass DR who has very limited skating at his age would do better than compared to the young sparkplug like Savoie aside from faceoff wins.

Drai never complained even with Yamamoto. He'll play with anybody.

But Arvid is a particularly bad option because he will end any play either losing the puck or taking the shot. Arvid used to be a cycle player. Now he just wants to fire shots. Podkolzin on the other wing scoring less than a fire hydrant would around the net.

weird call-up? Idk

Most logical one to me. Clearly we have a shortage of Centres because we're playing Kappanen or Janmark as centres occaionally. Furthermore none of our centre are right shots.

The hope was likely that Philp would have been ready, but he wasn't quite there yet in a role KK trusted for taking key faceoffs or killing penalties. Welcome back DR. Odds are he'll only play 5-8 of the final 15 games, and when he plays it will be less than 10 minutes, but he can handle that and hopefully Philp has a great finish down in Bako.

Every good goaltender has the players in front of them adjusting their game to make the goaltender look good. That's how it works.

Is ekholm back?
I heard he has a core injury, perhaps the groin which they sometimes refer to as a core injury.

I'd make sure Ekholm is as close to 100% as he can get even if that means he's out for the rest of the regular season. Even into the playoffs.

Bouchard is a completely different player when Ekholm is healthy.

What’s questionable in your eyes. I don’t like Kapanen and I wonder if Klingberg isn’t ready. Otherwise it’s ok I think.
I am sick of watching Janmark and Kapanen play hockey, its so painful. Essentially any guy we have in the lineup just because they can "PK" are hopeless....just like our PK

Frederic and Kane can't get healthy fast enough
