London Knights 2024 - 25 Season Thread, Part VII

The QMJHL have not won a game against an outside of their own league opponent in two years. They won one game in the "M" cup, but it was against one of their own team, a back door team too.

Memorial Cup is the respectful way to address it.

Whammo!

rve...easy on the screech; stick to the Moose burgers.

Home since Wednesday, minimal Screech while away lol. But the 45 minute screech in was a production for sure n RVE recommended, which carries no weight. Lol. Skipper Lukey is a legend in St Johns. A. Bourdain fans will have seen it.
The Rock ( perfect nickname for the province) is a great place to visit for those that love outdoors.
On par with the 2 week tour of Nova Scotia last year for sure,
info for Canada East coast vaca promo over now. Please continue regularly scheduled content

Great game by the Knights! Whooooo!
I really think Iam not being bias but we have outplayed every team including our 1 loss we have played . All these teams can get inside our defense. Most every shot on our net or goals have been from the point / screen / deflection. These teams in this tournament ( also Oshawa) do the exact same thing . Shoot from the point or outside hoping for a tip or a screen . And they all like to gamble . We have had numerous 2 on 1 and breakaways we just haven’t buried on . Tonight especially I don’t think Moncton had really any good chances 5 on 5 . Also I hate to say it but has anyone looked at the penalty minutes ? We have more than our fair share . I notice during the Ohl regular season and even in the NHL if you take a penalty like Cowan did the other night where his hip hit the goalkeeper, fine 2 min protecting the goalies whatever , but after the whistle 4 guys jump him punch him cross check him , the ref would call a retaliatory penalty . Didn’t happen there why ??? And the same with the vangorp penalty tonight , the defender pushes him in the back into the net then punches him and cross checks him , no retaliatory penalty again ! Why ??

Sorry, vangorp deserved that penalty 1000%.

That is not in question. The comment was why was the retaliation let go? In both cases mentioned the penalty to the Knights was indeed deserved but the retaliation to said infraction was completely ignored. It’s not open season to retaliate to a penalty that has already been called. But in this tournament where the Knights are concerned it is. Lesson is don’t take the original penalty.

Every goal scored last night were all great goals, including both Moncton power plays, even Cowan had to hustle to get the breakaway to the empty net. Nevertheless, the most gratifying moment was when Julien won the face-off and delivered the hook pass to Nurmi for the Knights' fourth goal. This was a set play, and Julien appears to be a master of set plays for the Knights.

In the four games the Knights have played they have been assessed 19 penalties to their opponents 11. Just about a 2-1 ratio. I didn't do a thorough analysis of ones that were offsetting etc. but these are the raw numbers.

The Knights do have a tendency to play on the edge and at least with the team the last three years have a ton of confidence in their PK.

That said, it seems to me that London has a "reputation" - deserved or not - of being a "dirty" team and thus get these borderline calls. What I have a hard time understanding throughout these playoffs and Memorial Cup are the clear non calls on their opponents.

Regarding Sunday's game, I hope Dale and the team learn from the disaster start in last year's final and put in all on the line for a full 60 minutes. Leave it all out there, no "rope a dope" play in the first period and use their speed and depth to their advantage. We have been very fortunate as a fan base for the last three years to watch these kids develop and while the next couple might be re-tooling years we have a good base going forward.

#3 will not be back next year. He has elevated his game in the playoffs, has cleaned up his defensive game and has put the team on his back at times. Yes, he will have lots to learn at the next level but has the skills to be a very good player for SJ.

San Jose should have a very good young team. I may just become a fan ... Go Sharks Go ! LOL

And a few thought it was a waste of an OA spot cause for a short stretch he didn't get points but what was rarely missing was attention to detail, positioning, doing the things away from the puck that win games.
It was honestly tiring ( a sign I'm old n cranky lol) reading he isn't physical enough, doesn't score enough.
I'm not addressing this to you at all as, i have no idea who said what.
Nurmi, Elliot, Dickinson(very odd) Sim, JJ, all took heat during the year on this board along with others.
Posted I loved the staff reuniting Nurmi/Sim/Julien....earlier in POs then had to go away from it but they showed up big tonight.
I was vocal about Dickinson's play in the regular season. He didn't look interested in playing D and gave up the puck a lot.

I will admit that he has elevated his game in the playoffs and Memorial Cup. He is a different player in his own zone now and it has rounded out his game. He will definitely get the 9 games at the beginning of the season to see if he fits into the Sharks plan next season.

It's hard to imagine he would not fit in their plans since they were the worst team in the NHL this year. I would think Kasper will be there as well. They have a good young group they can build around and will need to throw in some seasoned vets to help these "kids" develop. I like their prospects for the next few years building around Cellibrini as opposed to Chicago and Bedard - who I am still not totally sold on.

We see this quite often when defenders are being use in excess of 25 minutes a game. They regularly conserve their energy, making it appear as though their defence mechanism is deceptively suffering, but in reality it is not.
The 3-4 giveaways a game in the regular season was him conserving energy? Gotcha.

It's been a long-held belief of mine, that it's often not your "star" players who win a team championships, but it's more often your depth players who get their team over the hump. This semi-final game confirmed this to me. When the Knights were struggling to generate offensive production, it was Montgomery, Julien, Nurmi, and Sim who dug down and got those goals or key assists to secure the win. There will be times when the top line gets shut down by opposition checking, and that's when those secondary guys get to shine.

When Barkey was recovering from Mono, and Cowan, Haltennen & Nurmi were absent at the WJT, it was those secondary players who stepped up and kept the team on a winning trajectory. Yesterday, that experience payed off, with their support in a do-or-die situation. Gotta salute those guys whose efforts helped to earn their team's spot in the final.:thumbu::):D

Don't buy into the doomsdayers
I agree. 16 and 17 year olds might commit to NCAA but are too young for University for the most part. 18 and 19 year olds may also commit but will many of them make NCAA teams dominated by 20, 21 and 22 year olds? 20 year old over-agers may also commit and make NCAA teams at times. I don't believe this will water down the league in any significant way. We may see more young talent play in the CHL compared to the last few years where many stayed with the USDL. The CHL need to provide the players with the ability to earn $$ through endorsements etc just like the NCAA to make the playing filed a bit more even regarding the higher end talent. Finally no every CHL player would qualify for an NCAA academically.
