London Knights 2024 - 25 Season Thread, Part VII

I do not remember much of last years Memorial Cup someone can please correct me on this but it does seem like this years tournament is very well balanced and been close games where anyone could have won any of the games with an extra bounce here or there.

Has anyone ever come across, or "know a guy" that designs replica rings? I'd love to start a collection of OHL Champ and Mem Cup rings...but can't source anyone. Any input?
I thought Jostens did the rings. I haven’t seen any replica rings would be nice if teams did fan rings at a cheaper price to buy we go through the grind as much as the players from the stands.

Given those facts I’d say London won the OHL while Saginaw won the memorial cup. I don’t know- just guessing though.

What’s the point of arguing something that happened a year ago? Is Saginaw that imbedded in your head? Focus on this mem cup
Not happening here, but on Facebook specifically fans of opposing teams love to rag on the fact the Knights lost the Memorial Cup last season. The amusing part is that it's not just Saginaw fans.

If you ask any player to choose J. Ross Robertson Cup or Memorial Cup which would they rather win , every single time they will say J.Ross Robertson Cup. Every team wants to go through the front door. As rve24 said, Memorial Cup is just gravy. The season is already a success.

For me, the memorial cup is the end of the race and ultimate prize.

Those teams that don’t get deep in the playoffs will always have an asterisk. But when you win your league and beat two other champions, that is the pinnacle of sports hardware and its age time boxed making it of of the rarest feats in one’s career.

1) Memorial Cup through the front is ultimate perfection.

2) League title but memorial cup loss

3) League loss but memorial cup win

This year with Rimouski coming within two wins of a championship, all are deserving making this Memorial Cup really worth something. You will hear the names of all four teams echo in the NHL for decades.

Was just going to post it.

Boulton likes to patrol the red line during warmups. He is bringing back some old school hockey tactics. Apparently the CHL wants to be soft.

I agree with you 100% all though last year was a tremendous year for the Knights something is missing without the Memorial Cup. Last years team will never be remembered in history like our Memorial Cup winners (2005, 2016) will be.

LOL, however here is what I have noticed. Now not without exception but it seems common I would say?

When a team loses the Memorial Cup but wins their league posters will inevitably say “the league title is FAR more important then just the Memorial Cup” ….. Peterbourgh 2 years ago. When a team wins the Memorial Cup and not their league championship the Memorial Cup magically in posters minds is far more important then “just a league championship”…… Saginaw last year. LOL, all in the eye of the beholder I guess? Come on Knights getter done and leave no confusion as to your teams legacy.

You want to win both. Anything less is not as good.

I've never wavered fromm comments and I've talked to plenty of players about it. Most from the 2005 team and you can probably find their quotes somewhere. They wanted to go in the front door.

Of course you want to win both, nobody has said otherwise. But players would rather go in the front door than the back. So does management. That's why teams stock up to make a run.
.
I agree. I’ve always opined that back door winners of the tournament are not a true representation of a CHL champion . Would have said the same thing in 2014 had London won. Happy to see the hosts go 0-3 this year and if London loses, at least they’re losing to a league champion this time.

Alright perhaps a bit early to talk about this one BUT if Sam Dickinson is returned to the Knights next year do we keep him or possibly look at moving him? Pretty sure Sam is in the ridiculous position of not being eligible to play in the AHL next season due to his age, draft year etc. Perhaps I am wrong and for his development I actually hope that I am. Even though London is the best place for a kid to develop there is absolutely nothing the OHL or the Knights can offer him other than a place to play hockey for a year. I believe (in confidence) that Mark and Dale would agree in this case.
If however he is forced back to us (a real possibility) what assets would this young man recoup for the Knights? OMG LDN the possibilities are endless ….. start your engines my friend!

I don’t think there is much of a possibility of Sam returning to London. Yes he can’t go to the AHL or NCAA but he can grow his game playing in the NHL. It’s best for him to move up.

Absolutely you are always consistent on your POV and am very much entitled to it. I just get irked a little by the hypocrisy of posters when it comes to their view based on their team’s outcomes.

Front Door vs Back Door is a whole other argument. But agreed players, fans and management want the front door all day long. Last time we hosted it was a bit embarrassing as we actually had a weak (well by London standards) team and had no right being in that tournament. Believe the scores reflected that as well, although London of course made a great host city for the Memorial Cup.

And that's why , if they had to choose 1, it's the OHL Title.

To my mind, a "backdoor championship" at the Memorial Cup is sort of on the same level as a trip to a brothel. You might get some level of satisfaction.....but you sure as hell had to buy and pay for it !:naughty::skeptic:
