London Knights 2024 - 25 Season Thread, Part VII

My pre-game analysis of how our game with MH was dead on. We pressured their defense, controlled the top 2 lines (1 1/2). Pickford and Molendyk had no offensive game last night. Their PP was non-existant and as long as we controlled them defensivelly, we would get a lot of breakout oppertunities. To a T, we performed our game plan to perfection except we did not bury any of our 10-bell chances.
A little adversity will have to be what we take out of this game. We are not a perfect team so let's learn from this and get down and dirty. (not too dirty, since the refs don't like us so much)

The expectation of everything going LDN's way 100% of the time is crazy. You guys could use a few years in the basement of the league to appreciate what you've got. I remember watching games at the ice house with 500 people max in attendance I bet a lot of y'all became fans after 2005 and it shows lol.

I want a couple down years. It would get rid of some of the fairweather fans and maybe make the atmosphere better at the arena.

I am a Hawks fan. I know triumph and I know down years but I still support the team.

I think Yogi said it’s never over til it’s over. This is a heck of an organization. OHL championships are fine but no one cares if you lose your last game of the season. That’s sports. My first Knights game was in the 96/97 season. So I’m younger than most on here. Yes, I am a spoiled fan. I want to see this team win the Memorial Cup again but recognize it’s hard to do, even with London’s recruiting, facilities, and coaching advantages. Just like the Dodgers don’t win every year with their financial muscle. Again, it’s sports. I am also a Cubs and Bills fan. I have an idea of what losing is like. I love this organization and wish the boys, the Hunters, Steadman, Dylan, and the rest of the org the best on Friday. But I don’t think I’m a bad fan when I say that the odds are not in their favour for winning this tournament. I try to be a realist. Cheers.

The London Gardens was great to watch games. I remember good and really bad teams, some good and really bad jerseys (Spider Man). Many great players and a lot of successful in life kids. One of the things I remember were the games where the fog on the ice was so bad, the players had to go out and skate around to get rid of it.
What I hated the most were the Doug Terry years where he almost drove the team to oblivion. He had no clue, so thank you to the Hunters for bringing the success that we as fans come to expect year after year.

Love this post !!!

One game wins are hard to get in a short tourney.

London skated quickly and at a good tempo, demonstrating their skill and effort without any issues. Their mind game was missing from the ice last night, which led to poor passing, poor shooting decisions, and poor finishing. The team have to be on the same page, like a family atmosphere, it is a feeling, and it comes from within all 20 minds.

lol I remember playing aaa games there and having to do laps to lift the fog... and the dressing rooms with the tile floors ugh... but it was a decent barn with some character. If I had a time machine id go back and convince Dale to buy the Sting instead lol

Well tonights game will be a good one, winner goes on to play London in the Semi's loser goes home.

This could postential set up 1 of 3 elimination games in the next 5 days for one of these two teams.

I think we got to remember as fans hockey is a little more random than the other big 3 NA team sports (soccer is kinda similar)
Sometimes the puck goes in, sometimes it doesn't. (I think that was the great philosopher Brett Hull, maybe Nelli can confirm the philosopher part)
For me, they've already won the big one and a repeat to boot which hasn't happened often in the OHL recently. That to me is the big test. 68 games, 4 rds.....
The Memorial Cup is gravy/desert ( but I get a gravy (desert) many may prefer to the league title(s) )

I became an avid fan in 2000/01. I was a bit of a fan while I was a kid and went to a pile of knights/spitfire games in my teen as those games were crazy. But I really started to follow them in 2000/01 because my girlfriend (now wife) had seasons tickets. Absolutely loved going to games and loved watching these young kids put it all out there every game as they all have the dream to take their game to the next level. In 2002 when the team moved to the JLC I purchased seasons tickets and have had seasons ever since. Due to financial reasons I have not been to many games in the last 5-10 years but I never miss a game on Rogers. I was there before they were the juggernaut they are now but it was the beginning. I was not there at there lowest of lows to really appreciate what we have but I still know how lucky I am.

Here's a tidbit to consider : Last year, the Knights came within a goal of winning the Memorial Cup. Now some fans consider that to be a failure, of sorts, but in order to qualify for entry, they had to win the OHL championship. To achieve that, they had to win a best of seven series against the Saginaw Spirit.

Saginaw won the Memorial Cup in a single game winner-take-all event. There's no denying that. However, there's also no denying that they did lose a 7-game series to their finalist opponent ( The Knights .)

Given those facts, how would you rate either of last season's finalists ???

Last year, Saginaw adapted and played a great first 2 periods against the Knights and shut them down in the Final. Knights had the long lay-off, so maybe this is a blessing in disguise. What I would like to see is Dale adapt, and give the Knights their best chance to win. Haltunnen should not be playing with Nurmi and Nicholl.
Kudos to Medicine Hat, they've been the best team thus far. The Knights can win these next 2 games though, no doubt in my mind.

I believe there was an article showing the analysis of hockey and how much luck factors into outcomes. Generally, it was considered the sport with the largest randomness/luck factor. Look at the Spitfire teams that won. One year they’re 0-2 in the Memorial Cup, the next down 0-3 to Kitchener. They won both years. Yes, that is an incredible accomplishment, but there was a large element of good fortune there. (Plus sanctions for cheating, lol).

London has played well, especially structurally. Sometimes it just doesn’t go your way, especially in hockey. Go Knights.

Cool story!
99 here when I grabbed my season seats, during that PO run so I could get my same seat lol.
Similar to yourself, in that I went to a bunch of games as a kid, not as much as a teen or early 20s.
Radio played a big part in grabbing seasons tics end of that year as my schedule had me tuning in on Fridays often in 98n 99.. CH 13 broadcasts also helped grow the Knights brand for many if buddies n coworkers with kids.( man that quality looks terrible now on vantage Knights games lol.
Been a great ride. And unprecedented run of success.

Given those facts I’d say London won the OHL while Saginaw won the memorial cup. I don’t know- just guessing though.

What’s the point of arguing something that happened a year ago? Is Saginaw that imbedded in your head? Focus on this mem cup

If there was ever any question what the ugliest hockey jerseys were in the CHL that has now been answered with these Moncton black jerseys. These look like Toronto Raptors hockey jerseys. With such a nice logo why make a jersey and not put your teams logo on it.
