London Knights 2024 - 25 Season Thread, Part VII

Interesting first game vs Rimouski and Medicine Hat. Did not expect Rimouski to be taking it to Medicine Hat.
Had a feeling Rimouski could do better than them. No doubt in my mind the 2 weakest teams in the tournament. Give edge to Rimouski perhaps though given the home crowd advantage..Missing Spencer Gill too.

Closer game then it should have been tonight. Rimouski has a very good power play but that's about it. To me the Tigers were MUCH better then the Oceanic just need to stay out if the box....well that last tripping call was brutal but it is what it is.

First "M" Tourney game complete, Medicine Hat 5-4 win over Rimouski

The pace was somewhat slower than what we have become accustomed to in the finals of leagues, and the game was not as good as it could have been. While there were occasional sparks, everything was generally quite calm. It's likely that both will step up a bit in their next games.

Next London / Moncton for game 2 of the Tourney tomorrow night at 6pm

I agree about the pace. I was not overly impressed with either team last night. Could have been first game jitters or the fact none of these teams have played in a few days. Should be a good one tonight I think. Likely a preview of the final ?

I am expecting a Medicine Hat - London final

The Tigers are still missing last year's NHL 4th overall draft pick Cayden Lindstrom, he can transform this team when he is in the lineup, he is that good, he plays on McKenna's line giving him that much more space, dangerous.

Anyone else as shocked as I was when the OHL chose Mac Nichol to be one of their referees at the Memorial Cup Tournament?
Often, it’s not the best ref who goes, but rather the one who can or will make the trip.

Either they couldn’t be bothered making that trek or couldn’t free up a week off from their day jobs.

They’ll make their list in order of importance and go down the list until they get a ref who’ll committ.

Tough schedule being a visiting league with back to back games today and tomorrow. Imperative to get off to a good start. Each cup winner usually has had to go 4-0 or 4-1. Really want to see this group win it all. Anything can happen in these short tournaments but 2012 and 2024 are still tough ones to swallow. As successful as the Knights org has been in the 21st century, they’ve had enough good teams to have more than two Memorial Cups, imo. Greedy, I know.

Should be a preview for sure. Also predict whoever wins tonight goes 3-0 and has the bye in the semis going straight to finals

Game Day. Who knows what to expect in this tourney, it can spin a bunch of ways. Just don't be overly cautious ( I doubt they will be until PO round if they make it )
For me they got the big one, the rest is potential icing on the cake.

Note;

Has anyone noticed Blake Montgomery's change from his regular season games to his playoff games ? His level of aggression went up by 5 x, from 12 minutes in 51 games to 20 in 17 playoff contests. 0.24mi. per regular season game to 1.18 minutes per playoffs game. Although his production might have gone down slightly, while his defensive play is about the same. This is an excellent thing for him, and I am sure Ottawa Senator like to see him using his size when it really counts.

Go Time!
Chilling in StJohns for the 1st 2 games n thankfully got the TSN feed.

Didn’t want to start a new thread as im sure someone here can answer. Is this the 1st year teams are not wearing a Memorial Cup Patch on the jerseys and I assume that M patch is some sponsor patch for the tournament.

The Memorial Cup patch is on their butts.

It’s embarrassing! A tournament that is an honour to play in, pays tribute to our veterans, is one of the most difficult tournaments to win. Yeah, let’s put that badge of honour on the players’ asses! 👏
