London Knights 2024 - 25 Season Thread, Part VII

If Rob Simpson actually does decide to take the job in Niagara, one person that I would literally want as the next GM and President for when Mark and Dale decide to retire, is Adam Dennis. He’s done a fantastic job with North Bay, and would be great to have him back in London where he belongs…

How poetic would it be to have both Adam Dennis and Dylan Hunter, the players of the 2005 team running the team in the future.
Tremendous plan! Or get Perry involved

But can we slow down Gavin McKenna?? I hope so….
There in lays the challenge of the Memorial Cup. A Gavin McKenna is quite capable of putting a team on his youthful back and carrying them to victory over a 60 minute game! Similar to last year as we saw in the OHL playoffs there was no way Saginaw beats London over the course of a 7 game series ….. but a winner take all game is much different!

Anybody else excited for an heck of an all-time coaching matchup between Dale Hunter and Gardiner McDougall??

I wouldn’t wanna put too much stock in our first game, but if we meet in the Final somehow, it would be crazy!

Despite having less skill and strength in their hockey, QMJHL teams are the best in the nation when it comes to one-game elimination matches. They play a different breed of hockey, they play the emotional motivation game. When they are highly motivated, they move quickly and exhibit a tireless demeanour; however, when things are not going well, they become incredibly depressed and act as though nothing is working for them! Similar to the one-game take-all strategy or a bottom team defeating a top team, it's the kind of tactic that only works temporarily. The kind of game that Saginaw employed to beat London for the Memorial Cup. London is more of the relax kind, don't get too high and don't get too low, stay the course type, and it should be the best I may add.

If I was to offer my advice, I would say, do not allow these opponents the chance to get on too high of a note, and stay in discipline and all should be just fine. Medicine Hat, much stronger and much more subdued, and in control of their game. I counted 8 NHL draftees, and they also have an exceptional super hockey-kid (Gavin McKenna) on their team. Much like Oshawa Generals, can't take them too lightly, that's for sure,

Rimouski doesn’t have the time off Saginaw had. I would be surprised if they won one game. I wasn't impressed by either Q team
I wasn’t either but it just takes one game to lose. Medicine Hat impresses me watching their final series and they have the 99th percentile talent in McKenna and Lindstrom. Plus a coach who’s been there multiple times with NHL experience.

Hopefully no passive or stupid play like last final. Push the pace.

Well we’re on the subject of Knights legend Marner… I personally can’t wait to see him get out of Toronto and wear another jersey ! Go somewhere else and be great!

He doesn’t deserve what is going on. It’s disgusting!
In a 20 player team sport… I’m not sure anyone deserves this level of scapegoating.
I hope he stays here on Canadian land, maybe Winnipeg or Ottawa, I want to see the Stanley Cup where it truly belongs. I still think he can help bring it back

Marner just had a baby. He’s not just choosing a team — he’s choosing where he wants his child to grow up. If he’s signing for the max term, he’s deciding where to spend those critical early years, both as a parent and a player. This is a potentially life changing decision that goes far beyond just hockey.

With that scenario, which I agree with, his choices are Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg, Toronto, Ottawa or Montreal.

If I’m Marner, I go to a team where I can win now. A team who already has the kind of players that the Leafs are missing. That way, Marner won’t just be another skilled player. It’ll be like the days when he played in London. When he had to Tkachuk and Dvorak as linemates. That was a good mix.

Then, when deciding on a team, explore the living arrangements, family, neighbourhoods, etc., etc. etc.

Colorado might be that team. They didn’t want to pay Rantanen and look what happened. McKinnon and company were obviously irate at how it all went down. I’m betting he goes to management in the off-season and says, “I don’t care how much you pay somebody. Sign an elite player, bring him in and let’s win.

Four nations team mate Marner might be a fit there. He may shave a million or two off his expected salary to play on a cup contender.

Then he will have to take a pretty deep pay cut. Colorado is already projected to be $6 million over the cap

I gotta think Marner is with a VGK, Utah, Florida, TBL, Pitt or Columbus

If anyone is interested in any of the individual games to the Memorial Cup I will have a pair to each game available except the championship game. DM me for details. I am located in London.
