London Knights 2024 - 25 Season Thread, Part VII

I know we all love boults, but a single shift?! We are running 11 forwards all game. I know this has been the case most playoffs, but still!

It's been explained here ad nauseum. Oshawa is running 3 lines as well. Doesnt matter who they dress, the fourth line isn't playing unless the game gets out of hand.

No matter what anyone say about Cowan, the man shows up for games, even in the ones he's snake bitten, like his breakaways and penalty shot in game 1. Of course, he does lose control of the puck sometimes, just like every other player. Would you rather like to see a Cowan trying, or him not trying at all? Although his actions may be susceptible to interpretation, it is imperative that we acknowledge that he is a genuine leader who inspires his team through his unwavering commitment to the game.

No clue why everone is so determined to get the 4th line shifts? Dale did that in the third and it came back to bite him as it was the catalyst to the start of the Oshawa comeback. Our 4th line may be great in the regular season against average competition but when Oshawa is playing 2.5 lines, it makes zero sense to have those guys out there as a whole line. I am fine with sprinkling Reader or Bommell in on another line to give a guy a breather but unless the game is out of hand physically there is zero chance Boulton should touch the ice! Let's not forget that Oshawa is a formidable foe, we are not in Owen Sound anymore.

Still waiting for this officiating to “even out” in this series. Not as egregious as game one but it clearly favoured Oshawa again. Maybe Ingalls is someone’s nephew. I dunno.
Chad Ingalls has hands down been Oshawa's MVP this series. Man that guy is good, pretty sure the stripes on his jersey are Red and Blue?
Allen is not great defensively
This is correct to a certain extent. He is good when he is being physical, but every now and again he has brain farts which seem to happen a few times a game in bad spots.
Yeah like did anyone see Cowan get hit late in the third ? Looked like he was going down in centre ice and somebody cross checked him but they never showed a replay or said anything
He got laid out, it was 100 percent interferance and to the head. Magically it went uncalled, again Ingalls showing his worth and value to Oshawa!

That's the problem with Cowan. He may have multi-point games but is a defensive liability and has numerous giveaways a game.
Defensive liability ? Don't think so. Perhaps because he is on the ice so much he has more opportunity to make mistakes. I agree that sometime he and Dickenson get a bit too cute in their own end but I am sure have the green light from Dale to be creative

You nailed it, both guys have the green light. Sometimes both of them try to get too cute, or do "too much" because of the pressure they have put on themselves and the pressure fans have put on them to be great. These are not two guys you want to box in a cage, and tell them to play vanilla hockey. They have the freedom to create and more often than not we perish on the fruits of their labour!

Defensive liabilities don't take a regular shift on the PK.
You know who didnt take a regular shift on the PK? Rob Schremp.
You know who was pissed at Schremps benching in the Western Conference finals in 2004? That was you

Allen did get fooled a couple of times or three, but who doesn't at this pace, he is playing his game and the Knights needs him to do just that.

I don't mind bad calls as long as both sides are called. But these evening up calls or the ones where they're trying to level the playing field are really ridiculous.

You are right on, Bob.., there are as you describe, other circumstance to look at, like the green like from the coaching staff

I totally agree it’s a weird talking point that a few just can’t let go of? Also this is not the first year this has happened inevitably every playoff year the bench will get shortened. London has the greatest depth seen in the OHL in recent times BUT you still can’t have our 4th line out against the oppositions first line. I remember as a kid every 2 minutes the buzzer would sound and you switched lines. Is this what posters want …..? LOL 😆

It’s just that having a player who doesn’t play is quite something. Also think to years where the 4th line have been massive contributors. We have the personal to have a great 4th line

Cardinal Rule that should be reinforced to both Cowan & Dickenson : Don't try to stickhandle around anyone, if you're the last man back.
Adherence to this basic rule will prevent dangerous turn-overs.
Yes, I think we can all agree that is something you learn in minor hockey and pretty early at that ! :sarcasm:

We need a big game from the non top 2 D ( 3-5 really being Woolley, Brzustewicz and Allen). They all need to step up!

We need more from Nicholl, BMO, Van Gorp
I think all three were solid last night. Nicholl played the best game of his playoff this year, he contributes in so many more ways that just on the scoresheet. BMO played very good also, he was playing physical an was choosing to make the safe plays rather that try something a little risky. While he may not be on the scoresheet he look good. EVG was the same as Nicholl, he played excellent on the wall. Got pucks deep and fought to get them back. He speed and grit were evident last night!

Need more production from Cam Allen. He’s a PPG d man playing at a lower pace right now. 6 points in 15 games
It's playoff hockey now defence first, this is also why you don't see Dickinson jumping up as much. Now only if we can get them to stop those lazy back hand passes that get intercepted more then not...

But when the other team is consistently throwing their top two lines out you don't want to counter with an inexperienced 4th line.

There is zero need to run a regular 4th line

Makes perfect sense. Do we have a really good 4th line, yes absolutely. Do we want them out against anyone from Oshawa's top 6 ABSOLUTELY NOT.

London's 4th line average 0.347 points per game and average a +8 rating per player. That is while playing against other teams bottom 6.

Oshawa's top 6 average 1.10 points per game and average a +15 rating per player. That is while playing against other teams shutdown line. Imagine what those numbers would be if they were getting 3-5 shifts per game against other teams bottom lines!

As a Knights fan of course I want to see the boys finish the season having won the final game at the Memorial Cup Tournament.
However I have to say I really want to see this team win for each other. Cowan, Bonk, Dickenson, Barkey, Julien, Woolley, Sim (think I have the OG of (3+ years)so sorry if I missed anyone) are a core group we may have to wait a long time to see such a group assembled again. They see each other on the ice as only teammates that have been together for years can see each other. This team deserves to bring it “home” they really do. 2 more wins for the OHL title and then 4 at the Memorial Cup and she will be all over and end the way these kids deserve it to. However Hockey Gods can be cruel at times!
EVEN IF IT ENDED TOMORROW WHAT A FRICKIN AMAZING 3 YEARS IT HAS BEEN! Thanks Boys …

Liability, nah, I agree. #3 has been very solid positionally, stick on pucks n limiting Shwa big gun he is usually assigned to MvsM in DZone.

Playmakers always lead their teams/ league in turnovers. No big deal IMO.

For sure, Sammy is fast enough and strong enough to make up for 99 percent of his mistakes. Now it won't fly at the next level but he is so good that it works here and I think most of us are fine with it!

I mean realistically we are up 2-1 in the OHL finals against a VERY GOOD team. I think we are being a little bit "nit picky" at this point.
