London Knights 2024-25 Season Thread, Part VI

If I'm Sim I probly leave it alone now that it's 2-0 unless it's organic.
Fair point, that is why I was thinking early in game 3 just to set the tone maybe but I agree. Nothing for Sim to gain. Boulton challenged Bedkowski multiple times today and it got turned down. Yet Bedkowski felt the need to instigate and Henry hahaha.

The Knights showed if they let it happen that OS could beat them. Dangerous 2nd period. If OS could keep that play level up for the entire game and London has enough defensive breakdowns they can be beat. I expect a better performance for a full 60 by the Knights in Owen Sound.

Elliot looked shaky today… something to be concerned about or nah?

Nah, I would not get concerned yet, now the amount of turnovers from the defence was a tad bit concerning.

Mbuyi goal was off a brutal turnover pass up the middle, he stepped right into the slot and buried a very nice shot.

McDonald goal came off a rebound where he was left all alone in front of the net even when we had the man advantage. And of course it all happened because of an awful giveaway at the blueline by Dickinson trying to get cute.

Deslisle goal off another rebound where Henry was a few strides behind him not taking his man.

Elliot made a few big stops early in the third to keep it 4-3. One on a breakaway and he robbed Mbuyi off a rebound going cross crease on a PP.

That was the type of period you get when a team is up big two games in a row and goes into cruise mode too early. I doubt we see that again.

So there’s some defensive work to be done.

Do RVB and Hawery draw in at some point?

Do London try to set the physical tone in OS on Tuesday?

It baffles me as to why RVB is not in anyways really. Boulton did not play a second of hockey from midway through period 2 until the end of the game. Absolutely no reason to essentially play a man short because he can't be trusted on the ice. At least Van Bommel could have got a shift in or two and gave the big boys a rest!

RVB is a great skater. I think Boulton is there if shit goes sideways, but I’d say RVB is able to take care of himself.

I’d really like to see London not get out muscled. OS is dressing 4 2008s! They look like they have massive forward, only Hookey is listed above 200lbs

Agreed, RVB is a willing combatant and is tough as nails. I do not see him backing down from a challenge and he can actually play hockey as proven all year.

Only reason I can see Boulton out there is in case Bedkowski goes off his rocker, but he has already turned Boulton down 4-5 times over the last few games so it does not look like that is going to happen.

If Boulton is in the lineup game 3 he needs to make a physical impact. Not just fight, but throw some good hits and move his legs

Absolutely! Love the kid, and he would run through multiple walls for everyone of his teammates. But just seems out of place out there, skating around and doing a lot of absolutely nothing.
Yes what I like about RVB is he’s a great skater and if it’s him, EVG and Read they are a SUPER fast line! All 3 terrific skaters!

Should Dale stack line one with a Barkey-Cowan-Halttunen Line?
I actually like splitting up Cowan and Barkey when there is this much talent on the team. I find that they both play the same type of game and they almost get in each others way at certain points in the offensive zone.

Barkey-O'Reilly-Montgomery
Cowan-Nicholl-Haltunnen
Nurmi-Julien-Sim
EVG-RVB-MR92

Fair. I think if we wanted a physical/skill line we could do Sim-O’Reilly-Halttunnen, but I agree with those lines being balanced I think it makes sense. If London wins game 3 it would be nice to get Hawery in game 4 cause he’ll need some playoff experience for future years

Which line is the grind you to the ground line? Sims line?

Yes would not mind swapping out Hawery for Read for one game in Owen Sound for sure. Just have to make sure a guy like Boulton is in the lineup that night so no liberties are taken.

And yes the Nurmi-Julien-Sim line would be your shutdown/physical line. Although it is not really needed round one here.

Elliot looked fine. He can’t cover both sides of that net Your defense should be helping you there 2 of the goals were passes across the front of the net Our guys in front him decided to take the foot off the pedal relaxed too much and it came back to bite them. This teams done that a few times this year like against Oshawa in London . They usually figure it out and finish strong
