London Knights 2024-25 Season Thread, Part VI

The CHL is a development league for refs too.
It's not in their best interest to be biased.
It could be that they're just not that good...yet.
The referee we are questioning is a veteran and there is a familiar pattern to every Knights game he officiates.

When they changed goalies, partway through the second. He came to the bench at a stoppage. I read his lips tell the coach “I can’t play any more” and pointed to his head. He took at least 3 hard shots to the head, so I am thinking he basically put himself in concussion protocol because his head was ringing. That’s why he didn’t come back for third, cuz he was injured and not fit to play again.
I saw the same thing, figured he was concussed after those three direct dingers to the head. He pulled himself out of the game, it was not the coaches decision. This leads me to believe he will not be starting game 3. Even for the remainder of the second period he just sat on the back of the bench with his head down. If Erie is lucky he just has a bug and it does not spread. Worst case he is gone for the series.

In theory this is a great take and makes a lot of sense. The problem with the take itself is that there is 30 years of excperience between Faist and Monette so they are beyond developed. They are just shitty and are unable to get themselves to the next level. You will notice that the good ones come and go within a few years and get swallowed up by the AHL and NHL very quickly. The shitty ones stay here and continue to show us why they are still here.

Yeah, I’m not 100% on the ruling for that. There may have been an EBUG in the room in case of emergency situation. They aren’t required to be on the bench though, some arenas they sit across the ice from the team.

Not required to be on the bench nor can you use a third goalie. Would have to be a roster player they would have had to of dressed a player to go in net had Burns got hurt. Each team does list a "reserve" player on the score sheet that is allowed to enter the game if this situation is to happen. I believe this happened to Barrie a few years ago if memory serves me??

McCall was the D-Man. Same guy who has been sneaky dirty so far this series, but turned down every invitation to fight. Montgomery challenged him in game 1 after his knee on knee hit, then Cowan after he low bridged him as you said and later in the game he did the same thing to Halts. He seems to like to run around but won’t defend it.

To add to this, if I’m the Erie coach, I am angry with my guy who turned down taking one of the other teams best players off the ice for 5 minutes, who then scored 2 goals shortly after he got turned down.
Fimis on Erie also doesn’t seem to want to fight.

Depending on who London will have for 20 year-olds and Europeans on their roster next year, you'd think Campeau and 18 year-old Zakharov both 6'4" should be shoe ins on the Knights roster. Defenseman MaCaslan will be on only if Dickinson stick to NHL, if he doesn't, MaCaslan will be playing junior B.

Expecting Hawery for sure, and Cover, Cooper and Mitchell should be making the team, barring any trade. London should have a decent lineup, but will for sure be playing in an even much stronger Western conference, probably the strongest we've ever seen up to date, likely fighting the middle of the pack 4-5 or 6th place. In my humble opinion

I am still curious about what Mews has got to show us, what he can do.

I am not too sure about Henry Mews, I've followed up on his OHL career since his OHL draft, I've seen worse than him, much worse. He's had a decent junior career and is a 3rd NHL pick, most time a player's true character shows up with who he is playing with or against, and who he's playing for. Happy players do act differently, and he is one of those that can't hold back, is what I am seeing of him. Is his brother Max the same way, I don't know, I have not seen him or read anything on him, he is a mystery to me so far. Cheers !

I agree this is how it currently shakes out IMO

Van Gorp-O’Reilly-Read
Van Bommel-Nicholl-Hawery
Aboflan(OA)-Bidgood-Cook
Cover-Hickson-Campeau
Extra: Zakharov, Boulton, Gerber, Miniotas, Le Gallic

Woolley-Allen (OA)
Mitchell-Brzustewicz
Fagen-Fimis

Extra: Spencer, McAslan, Clark

Medvedev
Wilson
Weiss

This is without additions of imports and OAs and assuming Washington send Allen back and Dickinson makes the NHL or plays NCAA.

I agree this has the makings of a 3rd or 4th seed, if Dickinson is back that changes things though to make this team a contender. But either way you have to hit on both imports and bring in 1-2 high quality OAs

To my knowledge, he went home on his own accord last season because he was pouting that he was not a London Knight. He played alot of it off as an "Injury". Even though he was medically cleared to play he decided to remain at home and has asked for a trade behind closed doors.
That is too bad. Move him to the hometown 67s. They will have some open roster spots for sure.

It is scary to think, but unless Edmonton has a giant shakeup in the off season and brings in some Veteran FA's down the middle I can see O'Reilly sticking to at least start the season. A lot of NHL scouts are already saying he could have easily been Edmonton's 4th line center this year. They have also said that they think he is the most NHL ready prospect on this London team based off his all around game. Take that for what it is, but that is high praise from people getting paid to scout these players.

I think Nicholl and Hawery have big years next year, and will need to carry the load offensively if there is no O'Reilly. Not to forget about Van Gorp as well!

Dickinson should be back in London, his defensive skills need some work and San Jose isn't going anywhere next year, no need to have him getting beat up on every night in the NHL.
He has signed his ELC as well, so NCAA is not an option for him. It is OHL or NHL.

You have got to add your Europeans and a couple more overage to your roster yet. Not sure if Aboflan will be one of the three or not, we'll know by trade deadline. I am envisaging a few trades for draft picks comes falls, needs some openings for their new young developers making this team's roster, if their plans are for a two year reloading. IMHO

Low key I think O’Reilly is better suited to play in the NHL now vs a guy like Dickinson. O’Reilly has the size and plays responsible enough to be an NHLer. No doubt. I think Edmonton may wait another year though.

I don’t disagree. His defensive game needs to get polished before making the league. He will get eaten alive with some of the mistakes he makes. I think he can make those corrections easily though as he has a high hockey IQ and maybe he put’s enough work into it in the offseason and blows them away in camp.

Regarding O’Reilly, I remember a regular poster to the Knights Thread suggested something similar during training camp but he was dismissed as a crazy old man who knew nothing and was placed on the ignore list by several regular contributors.
Hmm …. Now to confirm he clearly is a CRAZY old man (LOL) but in this particular case he was not alone his thoughts!
