London Knights 2024-25 Season Thread, Part VI

Haven’t seen any. Even if I had, things change so much after 15 years old. Almost silly to have strong opinions at this time about the picks, I think.

If you(any1) saw a player 5-6 times thru the course of their MM season I'd think I'd give that sone weight over those digging in who have never seen kids skate, n just go off a stats pack or highlight video packsges posted on Utube by parents.
I never mentioned strong opinions lol, but ya most ohl teams do have them after the U16 year. And those that are accurate have success.
Just looking for thoughts n discussion on those that may have actually seen the picks play.
Very familiar with the u16MM , u18 MM n jrB/C player ops to step up or fall back after their Ohl draft year, but I don't think it's silly to have a strong opinion if it's based on more 1 article, stats pack or highlight vid.

All good. I agree that some weight would be held to reliable sources (not Jordan Mallette) after seeing a player several times. Just saying that a lot can and will change after this weekend. As you know. :)

If you only look at the stats from the forwards taken in the first round the Knights pick stats were the least impressive with only 11 goals. I trust the scouts saw a potential other teams didn’t see and he will one day be a key contributor to the team. Picking low in the draft you have to take a risk and I have total confidence the team made a good choice. And a year in Junior B like the team did with Easton Cowan will be the plan I’m sure. We are lucky to be fans of an organization that values player development as its main focus.

Do you even follow the Knights? None of these players are anywhere as skilled as Hawery and he barely played this year.

Miniotas played most of his career in AA and only made the jump to AAA recently. He will be a work in progress.
Le Gallic looks very skilled. I think it’s always nice going local on the first 3 rounds and Miniotas is looking like he could hopefully step in. I think all 4 guys could get in the lineup next season.

We have lots of spots up for grabs next season

Why? In the last 5 years London has only drafted 1 kid out of the US in the first three rounds.
I have been wondering the same too, here what I am thinking is happening, of course I could be wrong.

London hardly ever get fist picks at the best ones (US players), forcing them to look for sleepers at later rounds

When you speak of skills, are you only speaking of offensive players? If you were, then you would be right, on paper the players that were just picked may not score as many, as star offensive players they have now. If you combine them with five others in a defensive system on the ice, they can become as effective. Look at Kitchener this season with a great goalie in net, they only had 3 overages and 5 nineteen year-olds on their team this year. Add 3 or 4 more 19-year-olds they could win it all, without the offensive stars on the team

The players London will pick in the next rounds and of the next draft will determine if we are going to see a defensive team or an offensive one, and two or three years down the road.

Having a strong opinion based on your own views which are developed on what I’ve seen (stat packs, highlights and live play) isn’t silly at all. Actually it’s what drives this entire forum, it’s just discussion. Doesn’t make it right or wrong. Obviously as Knights fans we hope all these kids end up being great picks, but it won’t happen.

Ok,, reality check here. That reality is that from all those players selected, probably 4 or 5 will actually make the team over the next couple of years. The others will languish in Jr. , Jr. B , or pursue academic options with hockey becoming a secondary priority. Also, the round a player gets selected in isn't the primary criteria as to whether or not a player gets a roster spot. Just as an example, look at current Knights Jacob Julien , Evan Van Gorp, and Blake Montgomery . Where did those players rank in the Priority Draft ???
Point being that some fans place a disproportionate level of importance on this event, and an OHL GM worthy of his job can construct a completive team in spite of not having picks in the top 10. Mark Hunter & Rob Simpson have been doing so for years.

'Don't forget, London is in the business of developing junior hockey players, their success often ends up on other OHL teams for second and third draft picks. When they pick their players today, this is also what is on the team's mind

If Mike Zakharov has a 2007 birthday, why bother drafting him? He could be signed as a FA anytime.
Or is Mark just pulling him out of the OHL market so other teams could not talk to him?
