Ryan O'Reilly crashed his truck into a Tim Hortons in Lucan, Fled the scene and didn't appear to get any NHL suspension. I think that case, might be a closer comparable. The biggest difference, it happened in the summer and he was acquitted before hockey began again.

My recollection is that the Crown had no choice but to withdraw the charges when the lone witness had a version of events that didn't match photographs taken at the scene. They had no hope of conviction after that because the witness was their entire case.

That is correct, here is a quote from the case.

I just wonder, if something like this could happen, if there were no witness's to him leaving the scene and they can't prove he was driving.

For the record, I am by no means condoning this. Just trying to find a comparable situation, for what we could expect.

Allen might have problems at the US border if convicted….. not positive but he might be ineligible to cross with a criminal record …. again not sure what the exact law is a felony or misdemeanour going to the US ….

No one is trying to get him out of it, I believe it is a case of you trying to read between the lines when there is nothing between the lines to be read. As that is not how I have read any of the previous post's. They have just been mere speculation as to what may happen and others stating facts on previous cases.

Jordan Dumais was suspended 5 games by the QMJHL for his DUI last March for what that is worth. Obviously could be more details involved in this one, but again that would be mere speculation on my part.

Who said people are brainstorming to get him out of it? That is not the case at all, simply looking for a comparable situation.

I think the situation is comparable, driver crashed a car while under the influence. That is comparable.

does anyone think that the Knights will suspend him for the rest of the season?

Personally I don’t think he should play until this mess is resolved even if that means he doesn’t play again this year. but that probably won’t be the case even though it should be if you want to hold young men to the highest standard.

The only thing in his favour is that his actions really only hurt him and his teammate that was drinking with him. Yes it’s bad but he is the guilty party and the victim here.

It’s very different than hurting someone else. I still say a severe discipline in the 10 game mark which is March anyway

Go find a parent whose child was killed by a drunk driver and ask them if the drunk driver is a victim? Ignorant, insensitive and ridiculous. If convicted, he will not be a victim but a criminal. Plain and simple you can’t operate a motor vehicle under the influence.

100%. He could have killed someone. But I've known of people that have gotten of with community service, probation, suspension of their license, and fines with no criminal record. All depends on the evidence collected and the judge. I glad no one was killed and I hope this serves as a wake up call for him and other kids out there.

We don’t know all the circumstances so discussing here with every London Knight hater is a waste of time. he was past curfew , he had alcohol in his blood that was wrong but we don’t know if that was the cause , it snowed all night off and on that night he could of simply slid of the road we don’t know. Where it happened was likely right around the corner from his billets maybe he walked there for help again we don’t know! Knights will be fine !

I think having a new commissioner this is uncharted territory. Fleeing the scene just makes it worse. At the end of the day, he’s a kid, that made a big mistake. I can’t see the league cracking down hard on it, especially with how community based a lot of these teams are and the influence they have on younger kids.

At the same time, Allen’s an exceptional player. It’s unfortunate the cost paid, for him to turn around and do something stupid… 20 year olds do stupid stuff, he’s 20. The big issue here is he got caught, and got his name plastered in newspapers around Ontario within 24 hours. Can’t be covered up at this point, and I can’t imagine it helps OHLs image.


The original article I saw was the 5th? I’d expect an “indefinite”/“pending review” up until the court date, with a re-instatement shortly after.

You don’t judge a person for the worst day in their life. You judge them for every day after. No one is perfect. We all make mistakes. Some are bigger and more serious than others. Just grateful no one was hurt. I hope all players in the league learn from this unfortunate incident and plans are put in place to educate players and put stricter rules of both conduct and supervision in place. I hope both the Knights and the league hand down the appropriate judgement to make all players know that this behaviour is never to be tolerated.

Was he really Impaired not saying he did was right but as a novice driver have to have 0 if he had .001 and wasn't a novice driver he wouldn't have gotten DUI.
Not excusing what he did but we don't know all the details I reserve my judgment till March 6th when he has his day in court
