London Calling: Ten Questions For Ottawa Senators Rising Prospect Blake Montgomery

The Senators' 2024 fourth-round draft pick is now the top goal scorer on the nation's top junior team.

Q&A with Blake Montgomery (3 of 10 Questions here)

Q: Why do you think things are clicking so well for you right now?
Blake Montgomery:
"I'd say I've always had that kind of offensive drive to create plays and production for myself. I feel like coming from teams I played on before, I feel like a lot of that was coming from myself. And being on a team this good, playing with guys like Sam O'Reilly and Denver Barkey, they're finding me. They're hitting me in certain spots. And they're just giving me more chances to score, so I feel like more production is coming out of it."
Q: What are you liking about your game right now?
Blake Montgomery:
"Just a lot of confidence. I almost feel like if I get a good chance, I feel like I know I'm gonna put it in, you know. Shots are coming around quick and it's a lot of fun."
Q: Why is this London Knights team so good, number one in the CHL?
Blake Montgomery:
"I'd say the amount of pace we play with. Guys like to make plays so fast we're getting up ice quick. We're not leaving much room for other teams to breathe, and that makes it hard on them to run a full 60-minute game to keep up with it."

What do we think of Woolley and brzustewicz on the back end for the future?

Also, how did Landon Sim make this team as an OA?!?

I love them as the core of the group for next year and if Dickinson is back OH BOY

Sim is a great role player

Game day! Guelph is on a 5 game point streak which is very solid for a young team. Luchanko being back is seemingly giving them a spark.

Sim is the straw that stirs the drink. He does it all, and sticks up for his teammates even when it is not needed. The fact that this is even a question you have brought up would lead me to ask a bunch of questions back to test your hockey knowledge but we will let it fly as RVE said this is clearly a personal agenda.
Dickinson will be back next year. His defensive play and decision making needs ALOT of work. It's D first in the NHL so until he can figure that out, he won't be playing in meaningful NHL games.

I agree, his mental gaffs come far too often I find but he has so much talent that makes up for his mistakes. As we kind of saw at the worlds, at the next level those mistakes get feasted upon. So i expect him back to work on his defensive game, but I think he will get a cup of tea to start the year.

Sim absolutely stirs the drink. He just create space with his chaotic style. He’s a guy you HATE to play against and LOVE to play with. I don’t know if there’s anyone that has the stat, but I would love to know the Knights record with vs without Sim. He is a huge part of this organization. He will be missed next year. I’m so glad we had McCue last year. You NEED a spark plug Guy. Who is that guy next year? Aboflan?

Agreed. WJC showed what he needs to work on. I agree he should see a few games. It’s up to him though. If he puts in the work over the off-season he has great opportunity to take over a spot. His skill level is there for sure.

I think Dickinson is kinda the epitome of the Knights D overall. Very skills, good skaters, good luck movers, but make a few mistakes here and there that are avoidable. I think the D could definitely tighten up overall and make some safer plays.

That sounds like a great idea, but WHO are you taking out of the lineup that is rolling? Top 9 and EVG are secure unless injured. That leaves Aboflan and Van Bommell who are both playing their best hockey. Would love to see Read in there but at whose expense?

As far as Defence the same question applies WHO are you taking out?

Bonk, Dicky, Woolley, Bursty, Fimis, Allen.......Who is coming out for fresh legs?

I can see Abo, Read, Vanbommel rotating perhaps, but we know Dale just has to insert Boulton at some point, he can't help himself!

Maybe Abo, but that’s kind of silly to take him out. I agree. Good problem to have, but maybe you see if anyone is nursing something needs a game off to heal up.

D it’s only Fimis. The guy I want to see soon is Mitchell! That kid will be a good one and would be great to get him in some games. Do they call Hawery up for this stretch as well?

Boulton is saved up for the Saginaw games or any other team that would take liberties.

Is it me or are the Knights more disciplined this year?

Btw Halttunnen should be our Finnish ambassador moving forward. The kid LOVES being a Knight!

I do agree with your rotating scenario suggestion. Read has definitely earned his playing time but this line up “top 12 forwards” is hard to crack. I believe they have several players at their 3 game fighting maximum so suspensions are inevitable.

WHat is the report on Cover, sorry I have never seen him play.
Cover and Hawery are our next wave of stars.

He started hockey late like at 12 or 13 but he has some of the most raw skill, IQ and athleticism I’ve seen from a 16 year old in a long time. Get Dale to develop him and he’ll light up the OHL with Hawery
