London Knights 2024-25 Season Thread, Part IV

Sorry hard to see posts the same way after the new look.

Here’s a question and probably a hard one.

Once playoffs come around, who would everyone start in goal come playoffs??

Alexei Medvedev or Austin Elliott? I have my hunch, but I would like to hear everyone’s opinion…
After tonight I have no idea....possible coin flip. But, this is a good problem to have.

A few random thoughts.
- Great to see Hawery have a breakout night. He will be back with the Knights this year
- Both Medvedev and Montgomery had great games tonight.
-Team needs to work on clearing out of the defensive zone.
- Coach Dale saw the team out of sync early and made positive changes.
- Team just knows how to win.
-Windsor are a really good team and need to lose the Washington Capitals jerseys
-Should be an exciting rest of the year.

Oh he tried McCue was sent to Flint to slight London. Player wanted London but Attack gm ask was way to much. It is what it is Guelph wanted Hawery and Mark said nope. Will be fun to see how they do in the second half if we learned anything Mark Hunter can build a team with almost anything
Well, I’m glad for Flint’s sake McCue is playing. DeGray, like Burnett, drives a hard bargain.

I am fine with how this deadline panned out. I was on board with another addition but the Hunters clearly deemed the prices weren’t worth paying for the gain they’d receive. They know more than any of us on here. It will be nice to have a returning core of Medvedev, Brzustewicz, Fimis, Hawery, O’Reilly, Van Gorp, Nicholl, Read, etc.

Didn’t love tonight’s game. Medvedev and Montgomery saved their butts. Put someone on Protas a la Tyler Ferry/Rick Steadman next game and you probably shut down a lot of their offence. Maybe dress Boulton next game. Eichler was taking runs all night.

While I agree with you about Boulton but the refs watch everything he does just waiting to call a penalty for anything he does from a fart to a sneeze totally blunting his effectiveness in a game. He is judged to a different standard than almost any other player in the league. Too bad because he is actually a positive influence on the team and has worthy of being in the lineup.

Knights off to OS tonight. I watched the Barrie/OS game the other night, and the Attack had a strong game. Skated their asses off for 60 minutes, generated offence and played well in their own zone. Ended up winning handily over a top team. Can't take them lightly.
Need to find two linemates for Cowan if Hunter wants to keep Montgomery, Barkey and O'Reilly together.
Barkey makes any line better.
Assuming the platoon system continues, it will be Elliott tonight.

IMHO, Medvedev, simply because he'll become our future tender, when Elliott has graduated. Not to take anything away from Ellliott, he's done everything asked of him, and was a has brilliant waiver claim by Mark, but Medvedev has to get some high pressure exposure.

Not sure where you got the idea DD 'slighted' London,by not trading McCue there .

It's every GMs job to do what's best for their team.

Just like Hunters wouldn't part with Hawery, Degray wanted a top young player.

He tried 3 times with Brampton couldn't get it done .

Got an excellent deal with Flint .

The Attack and London have a history of making mutually beneficial deals .Alec Leonard is a very valuable and appreciated player here .

There are connections between the two teams . MacDermid and Hunter were NHL team mates, those bonds last a lifetime .

Last time the Knights arrived in town a night early, the Attack played a rare Fruday night game. The Knights team watched.

Hunters and MacDermids spent the entire night on the rail enjoying a rare visit and a few bevys .
Dale Hunter was getting pics done with Attack fans .

Degray would not jeopardize this good relationship.

So LK okayed a sloppy 2 periods against the #2 team in the country, were sloppy on D, shaky on O but good goaltending. Yet the end result was 5-1. Why, you ask? One word. Depth. Windsor has a killer starting lineup but a real drop off lines 2-4. Thur have a good D but not the depth there either. They are a big team but aren't overly physical. Except for a few players they seem to shy away from physical play. They are Big but don't play that way. As far as goaltending, they don't have the best goaltending either. Their starter is serviceable at best and will never be able to keep them in a high scoring game. In a game series huge me London.

I like the Windsor jersey it looks modern and sharp. The old style horizontal rings the Knights prefer is just that...old style, IMHO.

Any1 know the reason he went to hospital?

Why did they trade McD to the Spits 15 Yeats ago then? If I remember pgfered a pick 1 rd higher;) ( maybe the hamster has slowed down and I'm wrong lol)
Screwed the Knights lol.

All seriousness they have been solid trade partners with mutual benefits as you said and the McD trade I think the kid wanted to go to Windsor.
Got a soft spot for the town of OS

Thank you for saying this so I didn’t have to. If London wanted McCue, there was a price to be paid. They don’t have to pay it. They can offer less and Owen Sound doesn’t have to accept it. That’s just business. Hope you enjoy the game tonight.

Barkey makes any line better.

I'm going to respectfully disagree. Cowan is the reigning MVP and the first round NHL pick. He's the one who needs to step up and make his linemates better.
I think Haltunnen is one, and I'd like to see Julien center the 2 of them. Nicholl is a perfect third line C with Nurmi and Sim.

Good point. I'd like to see that line too of Cowan, Julien, and Halltunen.

CHL notebook: Maple Leafs prospect Cowan enjoying having Matthews as tutor

Easton Cowan 1

Easton Cowan gets a lot of benefits from being a Toronto Maple Leafs prospect. One of them is having a three-time Rocket Richard Trophy winner on speed dial.

Cowan has done well for himself since the Maple Leafs selected the forward with the No. 28 pick in the 2023 NHL Draft, including 29 points (15 goals, 14 assists) in 21 games with London of the OHL this season.

But the 19-year-old has gotten a big assist from Maple Leafs center Auston Matthews, who has given Cowan tips on improving his shot.

"He's taught me a lot on how to shoot and what to do," Cowan said. "He's helped me out a lot. ... Just on my [one-timers], how to hit the puck, where to hit it, how high to bring your stick, just stuff like that. And that's going to help me out a lot."

Some of the tips would come during offseason workouts, but the two also speak during the season.

"He's an awesome kid," Matthews said. "You see how passionate he is and how badly he wants it. I think for young guys like that it's important to build a relationship with them. He's going to be a big part of our team and our organization for years to come. And he's still super young.
