Logan Thompson distracted by nachos thrown on the ice

They need to protect star players like Corey Perry. No one pays money to watch goaltenders make saves. Nachos are expensive at Rogers Place. If fans want to throw that on the ice that's their call.

Edmonton is the most Mexican city in Canada. Why do you think we play La Bamba after wins. Matthews is practically guaranteed to sign here as a UFA in a few years.
I didn't know that, I assumed Canada had a very tiny population of Hispanics. In my area we are pretty diverse but you don't see many Mexican people.
Maybe they misunderstood what was meant when they were told Canada has a ton of Ice lol

Perry missed an opportunity for the best goal celebration.

I think we've also just glimpsed into the future of food banks in a capitalist dystopia. Everyone buys Rogers Place nachos at full price, then after the first goal the tortillas y queso rain down in crispy, gooey teddybear toss-esque madness which is then scraped from the ice and fed to the poors.

Does he have a right to be a bit annoyed? Yeah, sure. Goalies are goalies - if he says it broke his concentration or whatever, fine, valid, I’m not going to argue. Be annoyed. I probably would be too. Genuinely.

Is there anything that can or should be done about it? Absolutely not. If for some idiotic reason fans decide to make this a thing and start doing it with regularity because a goal was scored when it happened, than yeah, the stadium or league will have to start aggressively tossing/banning people that do that. But that hasn’t happened and is only a hypothetical so… sucks? Be mad and move on? One off incident.

I don't know if the poster was being serious with the comment or not, but Ontario has about 5 times the population of Latin Americans vs. Alberta.

Side note : fans throwing things on the ice in the attacking zone should 100% be challengeable. Within a reasonable timeframe
That’s not really in the spirit of the rule, though... Does one nacho chip or a dash of queso 2 centimeters over the glass really affect the play?

All these cheesy reviews are slowing down the game and chipping away at the fan experience.

I wonder if there is a large contingent of Newfie like Latin Americans working up here. What I mean by that is the newfies tend to migrate where the work is. When Southern Ontario was booming, there were tons of newfies but when it slowed a ton went out to the Oil fields

What prompted the nacho throwing and do we know if the fan got tossed? PLD goal celebration get under someone’s skin?

The metropolitan areas with the largest populations of people with Mexico-related origins (2023) are: Montreal (40,795; 3.9%), Greater Toronto Area (60,969; 4.3%), Vancouver (30,995; 2.5%), Calgary (10,965; 1.4%), Edmonton (9,830; 1.3%), Ottawa (5,865; 0.9%).

...it was a joke, amigo...a poke at Leaf fans with the Matthews reference... 🤣
