Weird that this is not a rule to begin with. Maybe they change it now? Thay can do it pretty fast too, remember when those two guys fought (I can't remember who) and took the other one´s helmet off and not their own, they didn't get a penalty because it was not against the rules, they fixed the loophole immediately.
