I knew it wouldn’t take long for the anti-woke zealots (or whatever nonsense) to claim this as a victory against their enemies.

He’s done enough to earn a second chance and he got it. It’s not a political victory for you lot, it’s his work paying off.

I probably wrote it wrong, but I think you didn't catch what I meant.

Some posters were convinced Mailloux would never get signed because the Habs org would be afraid of the woke media/fans what have you.

They obviously took the right decision and signed him.

And yes, I agree with you, it's his hard work that is paying off. But I think the Habs organisation did a good job of "coaching" him through this ordeal.

On to Hockey now.

Ok that cements it. The habs want to keep him and believe in him.
As if it was ever in doubt.

They carefully orchestrated every move leading up to the signing. Sensitivity training, chaperoned by Chantal, saying the right things, damage control. Great work by the PR firm that the Habs presumably retained to soft land the ultimate decision.

You have to wonder whether Hockey Canada will give Mailloux a chance to play in this upcoming WJC after all the recent scrutiny HC's been under compliments of a far more serious transgression.

They did an awesome job handling that...both for the kid and the org.

We must not let cancel culture win!!!
Being responsible for your own actions isn't cancel culture. Don't rape, molest, sexually harass, insult, be bigoted, touch children, or be misogynistic towards people. It's not hard. I don't have the urge to murder or rape people when I see women dressed a certain way, it's not a normal feeling I have to contain.

Anyways, I am not sure about the signing not because of the PR implications but the fact that he's played 12 games since being drafted. We've got to hope he has a monster season in the OHL. Management must be impressed by what he's shown in drills and it did feel like him spending the summer in Montreal was a probation period for him to meet with the team and learn about what they want from him.

Guys, there’s absolutely no need to politicize this move. This isn’t an anti or pro anything. This is the Habs signing a controversial former first round pick to an entry level deal. Hughes, Gorton and company waited to make sure that he’s learned from his past mistakes and can move forward. They’ve overseen that path and been very transparent about what would need to be done. They must have been pleased with what has taken place on that journey.

I will trust their judgment. He’s officially signed, now he will really need to get to work. I will be rooting for him.

Meh, we'll see how he turns out. Would have preferred that compensation 2nd rounder in a strong 2023 draft. He has barely any games last 2 years to show anything and might have shoulder problems going forward. That's ignoring the PR stink that will forever follow his name.
Wouldn't they have to prove that Mailloux wouldn't sign with them? I might be wrong but I don't believe a team can just choose to cut bait and get a compensatory pick for it

Filming someone committing lude acts without consent has been considered a sex offense since portable cameras were a thing. I honestly am not going to go any deeper than that cause I get the feeling your opinion isn't going to be changed and this thread is about signing Mailloux, not discussing the incident for the hundredth time.

I think you need to read up on what actually happened. And learn to spell before making all these disgraceful posts (I'm talking about your mockery of the handicapped and special Olympics in another thread.)

She consented to being filmed?? Wow you really have the insider scoop. Cancel culture is a myth perpetuated by people who are worried their dirty laundry will be aired any minute, Louis CK is performing again for christ's sake lol

He needs to leave fighting to other players if he can. Best chance of staying healthy.

Edit: I hope that we can keep this discussion centered on hockey. We cannot change the past.

they must see something in him to already give him a contract even with the limited number of games he has played over the last 2 seasons. Hope it works out, but 19 games in 2020-21 and 12 in 2021-22 is not much.

It's funny because you know the woke crowd is in shambles.

Just go over to Reddit and see for yourself 😂

The Montreal Canadiens announced this morning that 2021 first-round draft pick Logan Mailloux has signed an entry-level contract. Mailloux was drafted 31st overall in the 2021 draft after Montreal’s Cinderella run to the Stanley Cup Finals. Mailloux was a controversial pick at the 2021 draft due to legal issues in Sweden after having non-consensually filmed a sexual act.
