Prospect Info: Logan Mailloux Part 3 The Only Hockey Talk Thread

if the kid can fit a role on the top 6 D at a lesser price and Utah can sign a big name I would be happy! (If I was such fans of that club)
For a core building block at 4OA you think they will subsidize a deal for Mailloux and the 17 OA by signing a UFA.......which they can do anyways?????? You do know that Utah has more cap space than any NHL team by a mile right?

If Utah is making this deal knowing that they would need to sign a UFA to make it work then they are doomed to be bottom feeders as trying to insert the value of the UFA acquisition into a trade that they already made would be egregiously dumb. This would mean that they knowingly took less value in the trade hoping that they could recover it with a UFA signing. You always maximize a trade return and Mailloux plus the 17th OA is a poor trade that would easily be beat but multiple teams.

Your offer is an entirely one sided deal from a Montreal bias. If you consider the reality of the situation from Utah's perspective from something other than a used car salesman trying to sell himself a lemon then you will immediately see why Hughes would be embarrassed to even offer this.

He was rumored with a 1st (21 or 26, not known) for Zegras, but this year wouldn't help us to move up in the top 10 with a 17th overall .. .. .. I'm kinda lost with his market value.

Because teams have specific needs. If we had 4th OA and someone offered us a later first and a top LD prospect, we wouldn't make that trade. It doesn't mean the LD prospect has no value in trades, it means the LD prospect isnt what we are looking for.

Utah has 20 mil in cap space, which is around league average and need to sign/replace guys like Kesselring, Cooley, Hayton, Schmaltz and Ingram next offseason. They've got plenty of cap space, but the Sharks (over double), Jackets, Ducks, Hurricanes, Flames, etc. have way more space.

That might be my bad as I didn't look up the stats as I keep hearing the claim that Utah has the most cap space and assumed it to be correct.

They are mentioning it right now but I think that is more a combination of having the will to spend big combined with cap space.

They have very little that needs to be resigned this season and potentially have some guys coming off of the books next season but nothing too significant (Kerfoot , Cole, Macelli at about 8.5M) They would have some big decisions to make the following season if they make significant signings this season but as of right now Cooley is the only one looking at potentially big bucks although Hayton could make some nice money if he builds on last season as well as Kesserling but these latter two are also very tradeable assets if they sign superior players this off season.

Who knows if the rumors about him being offered last year were true or not, but the Habs don't need to do anything as they can wait and see how camp/preseason goes. Let him and Reinbacher fight it out for a spot, as both can go to Laval without having to clear waivers. If he needs more time in Laval, with hopefully a different approach as the whole he's on PP1, then he's not, then he is, then he's not, then he is, etc.. at least to me made no sense as I don't know what message they were trying to send but I would say it didn't really work. Although he wasn't doing lazy shit in the playoffs but still to me when he did that shit he should just been benched and not just taken off PP1 if that's what they were doing.
The on again, off again is peewee level coaching. Until Rein came in, there wss no one close to him on the 1st PP, but there we were with the Barre-Boulet muffin shooting instead of M.

Other then X, hes got the hardest and most accurate shot. Often he puts it high stick side to force the goalie to use his shoulder and generate useable rebounds. Something i havent seen since Weber canons or Markov wristers. It would be intersting to see him on the 1st PP unit as a shooting option versus the 400 pass arounds to open up a man.

Next season is only months away...

it drove me nuts when they put Hoefenmayer on PP1 over Mailloux, like what in the actual f*** was that as imo he is not close to the level of offense that Mailloux brings.

I blame HuGo for lettings this nonsense go on. It did nothing for M other then making him fear making a mistake, which means he made MORE mistakes trying to think through...which is impossible at pro speeds.

Rinse, repeat, rinse, repeat...I spend months training people on CNCs. I hired the first wave of South American man/woman who were tending chickens before handling half million dollar CNCs. It took enormous time and effort but in the end, I had ultra loyal, ultra hard working people. Vinny needs to learn that he's no exception in managing and teaching people. M is going to make 100 mistakes...then 50...then 10...eventually it will be "no thinking" reaction to plays.

That's the way it is...

I can't speak to Bouchard who I haven't seen since his London days. Mailloux is certainly very poor defensively, the IQ is just not there, he makes poor decisions and at times he will be lazy and just give up on a play even if he's the only one back. That shit won't fly but perhaps that can be worked out of his game with the right coaching.
Unfortunately, a combination of Dick Irvin Sr., Toe Blake and Scotty Bowman behind the bench couldn't coach up this player into an effective everyday NHL defenceman.

Sure but keep in mind we got rid of Markov, Emelin, Beaulieu, Sergachev in the same offseason. So it's no real surprise that we struggled at LD for the next few seasons, and it was very much a self inflicted issue.
But schlemko, alzner and streit was a much improved d corp according to MB.

There’s gonna be a lot of ppl eating crow with Logan is scoring 20 a season and manning the 2nd pp wave behind Hutson, the kid is an NHLer for sure. There is no doubt about it, he’s missed a ton of development time, but he’s too good for it to hold him back. He will be a full time NHLer.
