Prospect Info: Logan Mailloux Part 3 The Only Hockey Talk Thread

Who knows if the rumors about him being offered last year were true or not, but the Habs don't need to do anything as they can wait and see how camp/preseason goes. Let him and Reinbacher fight it out for a spot, as both can go to Laval without having to clear waivers. If he needs more time in Laval, with hopefully a different approach as the whole he's on PP1, then he's not, then he is, then he's not, then he is, etc.. at least to me made no sense as I don't know what message they were trying to send but I would say it didn't really work. Although he wasn't doing lazy shit in the playoffs but still to me when he did that shit he should just been benched and not just taken off PP1 if that's what they were doing.

I don't believe in the IQ but in the NHL one of the biggest assets is goal scoring and he can score goals with his impressive shot and generate goals from rebounds. I know teams want to run 4 F 1D on the PP but it doesn't mean that can't change back as imo Hutson Mailloux would be deadly on the PP as Hutson is the much better/smarter QB but can't blast it like Mailloux who could use a setup guy. While they are at it I hope someone convinces the league to at least do less of the stupid every PP someone skates the puck up only to turn around and pass it back as this seems over done and outside of Hutson, so predictable (at least in Laval).

Mailloux imo will be an NHLer, just a question will teams be able to live with his defensive mistakes vs how much can he produce.

How bad is he I wonder defensively v Evan Bouchard at the same age ?

I can't speak to Bouchard who I haven't seen since his London days. Mailloux is certainly very poor defensively, the IQ is just not there, he makes poor decisions and at times he will be lazy and just give up on a play even if he's the only one back. That shit won't fly but perhaps that can be worked out of his game with the right coaching.

Giving up on a play doesnt sound like something you can work on in the sense that at his level and age, that should just not be happening. A 12 year old shouldnt be doing it.

So he wouldn't be able to compete and take an actual spot?

They have Durzi and Kesselring in the NHL and Lamoureux in the system, they're RHD depth outside of the 1st pair is decent.

And he's able to compete for a spot here. He's a RD prospect who was just named to the AHL Top Prospects Team, he has value.

so what would be the value of 17th + Mailloux then?

So no deal for the Habs this summer and no ufa?

Why do they have to trade 17th OA and/or Mailloux (together or separately)? Is this a trolling thing? Genuinely curious.

HuGo have been at least a little active and generally very active in the offseason. I'd assume that continues.

No team is going to move from the top 5 and probably the top 10 in return for a player with major flaws and a shrinking ceiling.

Mailloux's past also adds a sprinkle of PR nuisance to the equation and that will only lower his value.

If you were a fan of the team with the 4th OA would you not be furious if your team dropped all the way to 17 just to add Mailloux? There are 30 other teams outside of Montreal who would be given an opportunity to beat this offer and many can and would easily come up with better offers.

No just curious to see if we have a chance to move up! So either people here think the value of Mailloux is low or the Romanov deal is no longer a possibility in modern hockey.

if the kid can fit a role on the top 6 D at a lesser price and Utah can sign a big name I would be happy! (If I was such fans of that club)

Romanov wasn't traded to move up.

And top-10 picks at the draft never get traded for that kind of package, so its not realistic.

He was rumored with a 1st (21 or 26, not known) for Zegras, but this year wouldn't help us to move up in the top 10 with a 17th overall .. .. .. I'm kinda lost with his market value.

so move up to 13th wasn't a thing ok ... I might have lost the trade then ... from nothing to 13th it's a move up for me, maybe not you.

Its not a thing for anybody. A trade to move up generally means moving pick(s) to get move up from a lower pick. Like, say, trading 26th OA and 57th OA for 21st OA. Trading Romanov was to get a trade piece to acquire another player.

But even if it was, we're not talking about a mid-1st, we're talking about a top-5 pick.
