Prospect Info: Logan Mailloux Part 3 The Only Hockey Talk Thread

I liked the pick and defended it so I have no bias against Mailloux. I know he can do an outlet pass, that's easy, that's how he got his first assist in the NHL.

He's never done that in the NHL ever what the f*** are you talking about?? Under pressure, like what? He did it once against the Red Wings.

Then this year he was dogshit. If he was making crisp passes in the NHL they wouldn't have sent him back down.
Respecfully, what the F**k are you talking about...

If he's dogshit, please explain again, exactly why he would be a good partner for Hutson?

That if has 3 paths...

1...path one is as you say

2...he neither improves or regresses

3...he improves to where he was in the first two playoff series.

The last path overwhelms any potential loss of the first path. A 6'4" young Souray will cost far, far more then the value between a mid first he may get now and a devalued 2nd.

The metrics of the "if" don't work in favour of trading now. There is simply not enough loss to the massive gain of the other side of that "if"...which we have already seen.
Unless I get a serviceable RD coming back, I wait. It is a position of need for the Hab's and worth the risk that he becomes valueless. I don't think that risk is unmanageably high. Too many D are late bloomers that blossom into something special.

He's higly regarded outside our resident M bashers.

Maybe I'm contributing too much to that "bashing". For me, Bobby Orr would get a comment of being out of position if it was warranted. When people were making comments that M was a beast, i mention some mistake that he can avoid.

Difference between "scouting" and general game comments.

Let's see what happens in a few months...

He is one of those players that you will regret trading. Habs need to be careful

Certainly top 4D potential there and I just don't see Gorton/Hughes trading our futures for "meh" additions to our C/RD hole we need now.

Is our C/RD a need or is it a want? I think it's more of a want because we are in transition years and no way we should be forcing moves like the Sens did with Debrincat and Chychrun.

All these excuses…. Mailloux’s a low IQ Dman / shit for brains, which will always hold him back

Given his projected “potential” driven strictly by physical attributes….. now is the time to maximize return on investment

This is Nathan Beaulieu situation revisited..

Wonder what are the management's plans regarding Mailloux.

He seems like the kind of prospect with a risk of his stock going down in the future. Good management should be able to identify an use those kind of assets as trade currency.

It was almost too late with Barron, but somehow they have been able to find a good trade before it was too late.

It’s always better to trade a player one year too early than one year too late. I’ve watch most of Mailloux’s games since we drafted him. Nothing that I have seen of his play at either the AHL or, albeit short his short time in the NHL, convinces me that Mailloux will succeed as a defenceman at the next level. If we decide to keep him, I hope I’m dead wrong in regards to this player’s potential.

The one thing I did notice was that MSL seems to really like him and say that he will be an NHLer. I don't have exact quotes but I remember hearing him saying something to that effect.

As I said, I hope I’m wrong. The fact that I’m working on my third marriage would attest to my fallibility.

Young puck moving RHD with potential usually still get good value even if their play declines. With our weak RHD, I don't think there should be any rush to trade him, even if there is a decline in his play he'll still hold value with his size, offensive abilities and being a righty.

- Drysdale was often injured and not producing much and was the key piece in the Gauthier trade
- Barron looked like someone who might end up on waivers and was traded for a solid D
- NYR received a first for Lundkvist from Dallas
- Jiricek has declined every year since being drafted and was traded for a first (20th overall), second, third and fourth
