Missed so much development time. I doubt anyone saw a 47 point rookie season in the AHL...he really needs another full season in Laval.
I think I was even more impressed with how many (I know you were generous with praise) said he improved drastically on the D side throughout the year. It gave me hope that that his issues are fixable. To an extent at least.

If he can crack our top 4 and not hurt us defensively, we’ll be in business

Can’t help but wonder how he’d fare on offence. He’s not « physical » but he plays with an edge, is a very good passer, good shot, offensive flair. If next year is more of the same next year, is that an option to explore or are we still hoping he develops into Brent Burns?
If the D never gets where it needs to be I think it would be insane to not try him at forward. His offensive toolkit is too good.

I’m very reluctant to trade him at any point. I’d sooner wait 5 years then trade him anytime before that. It would have to be insanely lopsided.

He did improve as a whole, he's just not consistent with it.

Or leave him in the AHL until he is ready to play actual top 4 NHL minutes one day , I don't see the rush , bouncing him around to help us out on a Wednesday night in January does nothing for the kid
That’s what the Habs of yesteryear under Sam Pollock always did, as a carrot to prospects performing well in AHL, they’d call them up to earn NHL $ for a game - week. Gainey was the last to employ in regular fashion

He has improved but the NHL jump is significant
