Cooley in a vacum is probably the best player, but in Montreal I still take Slafkovsky. Might be bias, but he seems to be the powerforward this team has been lacking since forever and there's still a lot of room to grow in his case.
Slafkvosky doesn’t play like a power forward. Never has.

Normal people know all of this btw
Not on HF Habs board! They’re not normal!

I like Slaf a lot, but at this point, what are people seeing that makes them think that he still has a higher upside than Cooley?

Cooley's an elite skating center, with a good shot, and high level hockey sense that plays all situations- and is a shade off PPG at 20. Cooley's ceiling is unbelievably high. I'd argue it's higher than Slafkovsky's.

Slaf is a mammoth of a player with small-man skills. He's physical and extremely good at winning puck battles.
Big players take longer to develop and he's had confidence issues this year, but in the 2nd half of last season he looked like a future elite player. He's started to look more like that Slaf in recent games.

He finished last season with 42 points in 51 games, which is similar to Cooley's sample size and production this season.

Cooley had 21 points through 44 games at this time last year, a full 3 more points than Slaf.

Slaf had 8 pts in 31 games before he took off last season.
Cooley had 17 pts in the same number of games.

Yesterday I saw him as a powerforward, see him however you want lmao.
Can you count on one hand how many times he played like this all season?

What is you’re definition of a powerforward?
Someone who enjoys playing the body and forechecking. Slafkovsky is big, he’s powerful, he’s not a power forward. He does not enjoy checking.

Right, but let's say his ceiling is one of, if not the best power forward in the game- A Mark Stone level player- who's a big, physical, skilled, PPGish player that's great both ways.

Cooley projects as an elite play driving C and puck transporter that's defensively responsible, plays all situations, and is an elite producer.

The only guys with a higher ceiling than Cooley's phenotype are the generational players.

This thread/poll feels kinda lop-sided.
