It's not all that common to see players with exceptional motors, and well above average hockey sense. I expected that he'd be a high hockey sense, two way skilled forward. His relentlessness at this age surprises me. He's a great player. (PS I thought Cooley > Slafkovsky at the draft, and make that >> now.)

I’m curious how Slafkovsky’s contract affects Cooley’s. If I’m Cooley I’m likely pointing to it and saying that I deserve more. Slafkovsky’s contract ruins things I’d say.

Cooley's having a terrific season, however he's a very different style of player than Slafkovsky. Anyone who thinks the verdict is in now that both players are 20 should review NHL history. It'll take another three/four years before we have an informed opinion on which player's career is better.
While I agree

I'd still take the ppg center before I take the ppg winger (if Slaf even gets there)

Now if he played a power forward game then I'd see a case being made but so far he doesn't

Kind of like those proclaiming Hutson should have been the 1st overall pick?

Still annoyed the Coyotes franchise chose not to pick him multiple times in the 2nd round.

Slafkovsky came alive in the second half of last season, becoming a hybrid power-forward/playmaker who was producing at a 70-75 pt. pace. He didn't look like the same player for the first half of this season, but he's recently looked much stronger (his goal last night was pure power-forward).

He and Cooley have physical skills the other doesn't have, but it's too soon to know when and how high they'll establish themselves. Generally, however, I agree a C is taken before a winger.

It's cool that a late 2nd round pick has a legit argument for 1OA, but despite Hutson's rare breakout season, it's too soon for a victory lap. These kids are still so young!

They'll probably keep them split for some balance, but I have a morbid curiosity to see what a line of Keller-Cooley-Guenther could do going forward. I think it could be one of the most lethal lines in the league.
