Logan Cooley is on pace for 75 points

Should have went first overall. He's already scored more goals this year than Slafkovsky is on pace to score in 82 games.

Slafkovsky secured that 7.6M x 8 contract extension though.

Impressive, 1st player to a 10M cap hit off his ELC?
EDIT: Lol, nevermind players like McDavid and Matthews already did it. But yeah, agree with about a 10M for reasons below.

Stutzle, another third overall, signed 8.4M extension when he had 87 points in 132 games. Cooley has 85 points in 127 games, so looking like somewhat comparable players.

Cooley is on pace for 70+ points this year while Stutzle got 58 (in 79 games). Cooley is also scoring more goals. Obviously most importantly will be the cap going up. So yeah, if he finishes near a point-per-game and agrees to an extension before the next season, then somewhere in that 9-10M range makes a lot of sense.

Stutzle would go on to have 90 points in his third season after he signed his extension, but before it kicked in, so he likely would have almost certainly got more if he waited. If Cooley waits and bets on himself, then that's probably the best chance of him breaking the 10M mark.

He thought he was going to Flyers. Instead they got Gauthier. Ugh.

Would be more impressive if he was scoring at this rate on the Coyotes

Still not sure why the Coyotes would've let him go so early.

It as obvious the minute that he stepped foot on NHL ice that he was already vastly superior to Slafkovsky, and he'll be a runaway steal even with his high draft position because both players taken ahead of him have half his value at most.

So thankful the Habs are terrible at drafting between Slafkovsky and Reinbacher. Not that they won't be good players but between Cooley and Michkov they would have been terrifying.

Right now the Habs have no future #1C for their rebuild.

Hutson makes up for Cooley, so it's okay. Slaf will eventually be a beast as well, though not nearly as good as Cooley (who I wanted at the draft). So it's really win-win for everybody.

I agree wholeheartedly with your good faith non-troll take! When above point-a-game Suzuki retires in 12 years, there's no one to take his place. Time to panic!

Our #1C is Suzuki, dude. He will be our Patrice Bergeron.

Montreal fans were cool calling it early…
Overly excited fans maybe, not any reasonable ones. ;)

I don't think Suzuki is a true #1. He's a 1B, like Bozak was for the Leafs or whatever. Good player he is not the type of center cup winning teams have
