Pretty sure his contract is like everyone else. 5 year extension that was signed few years ago. Either way you have to pay him, so I guess just keep him around
It's not like his money goes against the cap or he's coaching the team

And if those guys don’t play like the ones above in the playoffs, you probably don’t win many of them.

How can people support Marner and John Tavares is beyond me. When Florida traded Huber-dough, they made a run all the way the very next season. They became a much better playoff team. You need to get rid of soft players like that. Not give them contract extensions.

Doesn't the fifth highest paid player on the team have seven or eight of those goals?

Edit: maybe they are only looking at the final game in each series - that would be 8 games in 7 years.

Brad's clearly the tactical hockey man of the group. He knows the issues and I think its actually good he hasn't been here very long. He watches the games and gets it. Dubas didn't and Shanny's opinion is so different than 5 years ago its scary.

I honestly have no idea why Shanny is there.

Shanahan was likely kept on, for some organizational consistency. They other two are new here... so I think I can understand that.

As far as Shanahan's change in tone.. I get it.... When you have young players, you have to be patient that they will grow into becoming winners, in addition to being talented. We all have different patience levels for that, some of you that patience ended in the Montreal Series, some later. Clearly, Shanahan's patience level was longer than most of us.

So they'll make changes, and maybe they'll find success, or maybe they'll be worse.

I think he was very clear without actually saying this that the way this team is constructed (The Core 4) have now displayed a pattern and it just simply doesn't work, and they will look to make the changes required.

It sounded like they were going to explore Tavares and Marner moves but obviously can’t guarantee any results since the players have a say. Also you don’t want to compromise bargaining position even more. However, no guarantees that they can be moved or how enthusiastic the Leafs are about moving them.

Reilly is unmovable. They wont eat salary to make it happen. They will strip Tavares of Captain to shame him into retirement and make Marner beg to leave.

Let's get realistic here. Strip Tavares of his captaincy? That would be the most idiotic thing to do for the organization, for a player that has devoted, and represented the team with the utmost respectability, plays to 100% of his capabilities, leading by example on and off the ice, but unfortunately his body is breaking down and can't keep up with the pace.

I don't think mentioned names, and I don't see them asking JT to waive. There are number of problems with that scenario, JMHO.
