To me, last years TB win was lucky. TB outplayed Leafs, and Bolts even missed Hedman and they other Dman for most of the series. Leafs got 3 lucky OT goals on screen shots or JT's lucky bouncer off someone.

As for this series, if Leafs were healthy would they beat Boston? Maybe. But given history, Leafs in playoffs they usually are healthy and it's made no difference in round 1 series losses.
does that mean boston was lucky this year because nylander and matthews missed half the series and woll missed the last game? we cant have it both ways

For once let's not do things ass backwards. Hire a President, the President hires his GM, the GM hires his head coach. Preach patience and development and stick with retaining draft capital rather than flush it down the toilet looking for band-aid solutions.

Key difference is given history, Leafs have been a healthy team in playoffs and it's made no difference.

Game 1. Missed WN. Lost
Game 2. Missed WN. Won
Game 3. Missed WN. Lost
Game 4. Both played. Lost
Game 5. Missed AM. Won
Game 6. Missed AM. Won
Game 7. Both played. Lost

If anything, they played better missing players. Two games they both played they lost.

Left coast
Easier to fire coaches than 20 players with bloated contacts and NMCs lol

There are a lot of good unemployed coaches wanting a job

The injury bug mattering seems to depend... we've had injuries for multiple years.

I agree that was an issue this year, much like it was in other years, I think we've been fairly unlucky with that.

I don't care if we won in OT or regulation though.

"results matter" is usually what is said on this board though.
The stats suggest that Matthews and Nylander would have topped the team in points had they played in the full slate of games (as is, Matthews had a share of that) and also that Woll was significantly better than Samsonov. It should also work to the benefit of any team to win in regulation rather than having to grind it out through what may end up being an extra period of hockey (while sometimes being even more than that). At the end of the day, results do matter and that's why I mentioned that I'd still take last year's exit over this one.

You're going to hate it but Queef signed an extension and Tre is the one who did it.

Better to be "lucky" than "unlucky" then (and I find both extremes to be quite overstated).

Doing the same thing and expecting a different result is the definition of insanity. Doing it for 8 years and expecting a different result is utter Pejorative Sluration.

Can't wait to hear Marner blame the bottom six again.

The only thing any of them should be saying is sorry for choking again. Anything else is posturing. There really is nothing they could say at this point that would make a difference in how I perceive them anyways.

I know I wouldn't believe them.

Eight years of this crap. It's no longer defensable. Shame on you Leafies.

Shame on you.

I don't want to hear what went wrong. I don't want to hear how it's going to get better. I don't want to hear any of the usual bullshit they spoon feed us this time every year like we're ignorant babies getting our morning titty juice.

I just want a god damn apology for f***ing losing in the first round again.

The funny thing is on leafs radio last night, the hosts even said this year's Bruins team isnt even as good as the older ones with Bergeron, Krejci, Chara etc... And they still lost. The hosts were even going through the Bruins lineup acting like.... "who is this guy or that guy?"

Always wondered why they do these press conferences anyway

They're a private corporation the same as any other private corproration like Restaurant Brands International (Burger King, etc)

You never see Burger King do a press conference where there are 100 reporters questioning them to death..

..so why do we have MLSE and all other sports corporations holding press conferences for their teams? They're privately owned so in reality they don't have to answer f* all to anyone let alone set up some huge press conference just to allow a hundred reporters in to tear them to shreds... makes no sense right? They're like any other company.. you either buy our product (hockey tickets, food, merchandise, etc) or not. Does Burger King hold televised press conferences where we can all watch a hundred reporters question them on things like their pricing and their ethics and the way they conduct their operations? Lol hell no.

So why do sports franchises do this? They're gonna say whatever the f* they want to say, they don't even have to be there or even hold the conference in the first place. "Either buy our tickets or f- off."

So why the hell are they holding the conference in the first place where the only thing that's going to happen is a ton of reporters putting them on the spot and questioning their entire existence? Doesn't that look bad on their business? What's the real purpose of it?

Makes no sense at all.

Is it contractual by the league? I don’t know. Just asking.

After every game, the press has access to pro league players and if the player or coach skips out I think they get fined.

in that case then yeah you're right.. the only way any of it makes sense is that it's forced under contract. And receivng a fine kind of verifies that idea, since a fine is what normally comes along with breaching an agreement or a law, etc. Otherwise it makes no sense - no company, and a private company at that - is going to hold a press conference just to allow a horde of vulture reporters to come in there and rip them a new @sshole! That's like a small mom and pop restaurant shop paying for cameras and air time to allow reporters to come in and question how they do their business lol... no sense at all. That's right, let's pay to set up a press conference where anyone can come in and make us look like garbage... not only are we going to lose business from this but we willingly paid for it and arranged it!! lol come on.

It would be interesting to find out how exactly that works. Does the NHL demand that each team hold these conferences as a condition of being granted a franchise? How about the original 6... they go back to the beginning, was this condition a thing way back over 100 years ago?

Because otherwise none of these teams are going to willingly hold these conferences where all they do is get torn to shreds. Like I said in reality, they don't have to answer f-all to anyone on how they operate their business just like any other corporation doesn't have to answer to anyone and no other corporations do this sort of thing anyways.. none of them hold these public events where they'll probably get shamed by dirtbag "reporters".

So for sure they're only doing this because they have to. And they have to because it's probably in the contract with the NHL, so good point there.

Now the question is why. Why does the NHL want this?

Hard to imagine Tre goes after only one (mildly disappointing) year. The Nylander deal was his only mistake IMO. He had the highest offer and could have held out. Other than that, I dunno his team was the closest to a playoff team we had. I also can’t recall the last time a GM was canned after 1 year. As for Shanahan, long overdue

How much would he be worth now if marner got 10.9 and he clearly out played him?? The cap hits high but atleast it isn't any higher if you lost willy to free agency you'd have to pay marner whatever he wanted at least now you can choose to pay marner what you want and if he doesn't take it you can move on

Correct thing to do is let Tre handle the draft and sign RFA's. New president should focus to move Marner and fabricate evidence that Tavares got career ending rash from his pajamas and can't play.

This outcome is not a surprise! . If u get socks every Christmas , do you cry about that?
"ooh we are so stupid for being Leaf fans bohohooo" ,
No you are never stupid for being a fan, but somewhat mentaly challenged if you think the socks you get every Christmas suddenly will turn out to be a brand new car.

Now lets look forward to some change whatever it is. I belive tougher more playoff type of players are targeted.

I am not that interested in Berube and just running it back for the 9th straight year. Berube doesn't seem like that great of a coach to me. So he won the cup one year, what's he done after that? I wish Q was an option because he has an actual track record of consistent success. Berube does nothing to me. It's just another guy. Is he gonna elevate the same group and do something different? I doubt it.

I believe in second chances, but what Quenneville did was pretty appalling, so there would have to be a lot of soul-searching and processes in place towards an eventual rehabilitation. Bettman has done the right thing by setting these conditions very clearly. If Quenneville is genuinely remorseful and takes the right steps, I believe he should be given the opportunity to coach again.

But make no mistake, this would be a long (and public) journey to redemption. I don't think Toronto - of all environments - is the best place for that. Somewhere like Columbus would be a good fit, kind of like it should have been with Babcock had he not blown it.

It should be a fairly serious house cleaning. Shanahan, Keefe and his coaching staff. Tre should be safe, I'd like to see what he can do without being handcuffed.

Bring in a new president who holds no loyalty to this spoiled bunch of brats. Babcock warned us. I wouldn't mind Berube....but for the love of f*ck, bring in someone with experience. No more rookie GMs and coaches.

Also, there has to be change to the roster. It doesn't work. Matthews/Nylander aren't going anywhere for obvious reasons, Tavares has a year left and he's gone unless he comes back at a HEAVILY discounted contract. Marner is already overpaid and has been an issue since being drafted.
