Caps have to get out of that mindset and "set the f***ing tone"

Yes please.

I know it sounds like a joke, but I honestly think that aside from LT's play, Wilson swiping Aho's mouthguard was the best thing we did. Just the casual way he looked at him when he did it, that said, "You're too small to punch. Gimme that." Then Aho had to tattle to the ref to get Tom to give it back, like the big kid taking the little kid's frisbee at recess.

When/if you can't get anything else going, at least do SOMETHING, even if it's that ridiculous. Something to change the mood. Something to change the tone. Something to shift a little momentum.

Ovi's one shift of the night, with the two big hits. Do that. Every shift. "I want everyone to come back from each shift with a hit. Go two straight shifts without one and you sit."

If you're gonna get pummeled like that, you can either choose to turtle or start swinging wild and try to take one of them with you. We just got beat. At least make it a fight.

"If you can't run 'em up, fill 'em in."

There's a lot of overthinking going on. My guess is that Carberry simply swaps Beauvillier and Protas with a small chance that Bear or McIlrath draws in for AA. That's probably it for game 2.

Also, I realize this is a slim silver lining, but the Caps actually did a good job guarding against high quality shots. Pulling from Gulitti:

And that was despite an overall edge of 94-34 in shot attempts.

yeah the lazy part of me wants to say they played good defense when theres way more nuance to it, but a part of it has to be getting the puck out of your own end cleanly which they failed miserably at.

It's not entirely lazy. Limiting quality chances and strong tending had them in the lead halfway through the 3rd despite basically sucking at everything else. The Canes are gonna throw the puck at the net from everywhere... taking dozens of "low-cal" shots, as @g00n said...no matter what. But improving puck clearance in the D zone and the puck retrieval/possession in the O zone are key, as is converting on their own chances.

14 shots tied a home franchise playoff low with a 1990 CF G4 series sweep loss. (Shots were at least 14 to 17 in that one...)

Looks like that may be tied for tenth-worst at home period in a playoff game since 1956.

This is another one of those ideas that seems to make sense to us, but it is never going to happen. Its just not. For starters, PP minutes, especially at the point, are the least strenuous minutes in a hockey game. He's practically standing still most of the time.

Carlson looked like me doing nearly 3 acres of landscape work today. I sort of feel like he did, but he gets multi millions lol.

That play by Eller when Leonard was wide open and screaming/slamming his stick for it was maddening. Eller was a complete liability (as was Dowd). The play just absolutely dies on his stick. I know that line was overall good against MTL too, but how many times has Eller skates pucks from the slot, and instead of making a play or shooting it, he proceeds into the corner/around the net and turns the puck over seconds later. Seems like it’s at least once a game, if not more. He is awful.
Every time I've seen Eller enter the zone lately, he curls away from pressure to the corner instead of driving play to the net.

That's not a skill issue, it's a decision-making issue. I hope someone points that out to him so he'll change his approach when it's not the right play.

This is bizarre! Google AI has already predicted the Caps will fall 0-2 in the series.

The Capitals are currently trailing 0-2 in the second-round series against the Hurricanes.
