GDT: Lloyd vs Canes

A lot of this lack of offense is carry over from end of the season and even the series against the Habs. We have struggled mightily to generate anything on offense for a while now.

Did Andersen not play the puck outside the trapezoid at the end there?

except for a few hits Ovie has been invisible
Or visible for all the wrong reasons...

I don't know what all Carbery can do tactically. They try some misdirection now and then but...aside from being firmer/harder on clears I don't know what else they can preach. Making quicker, crisper decisions is easy to say and harder to execute on the fly. They still don't have a team of burners. They're sort of slow up the middle. So...it's about execution more than anything (and composure/awareness).

At least they're doing a decent job blocking shots.

Has anyone played a good game tonight besides Thompson?

Maybe Matt Roy's been solid?

Protas has played well, and not just because of the goal. He's kept the Canes mostly quiet in shifts against him. While he's getting out-attempted, he's kept the unblocked attempts even and the actual shots on goal favor the Caps while he's on the ice.

Duhaime has been a shot blocking monster, as well. But I'd prefer if he didn't have to block that many in the first place.

Caps have got to loosen them up with their physicality. Carolina’s system and team speed aren’t a great matchup for them.
They've been way too soft tonight. I mean outside of a lone hit by willy, one by PLD and a couple from Ovi on a single shift we've just skated up and down the ice all night doing cardio while getting hit with pucks. Embarrassing so far.

They had a week off to practice, watch tapes, and rest. I'm going to guess the trepidation of the first game, but they are at home and Carolina showed up to play.

Yeah. I get that playing against Montreal for 5 games straight and having to adjust to the Canes is a dramatic shift in thinking and play style.

I just wish one of these days, the Caps won't come out so shell-shocked against Brind'Amour's team.

One day.
