A bad as that 1st period was for the Caps, they won the period keeping the score 0-0. 2nd and 3rd hopefully we get our legs going. As good as the Canes look, they will not sustain their fast, high pressure for the whole game.

Probably the worst possible matchup for Dowd. He looked atrocious and his lack of footspeed was extremely noticeable. Lost every face off he took too.

I think 2nd period may be really important. Caps need to make better passes and stop the turnovers. With the long change I worry that Carolina is going to trap us in the D zone on a long shift.

Drop of the puck they skate fast, generate a lot of shots from their good speed, and put high pressure fore-checking on their opponent. It works if you score goals in the 1st period, but that momentum is not sustainable for the rest of the game. Caps will push back, as all teams do(ebbs and flow).
