that was a ridiculous overreaction. I never want to see those kind of hits but there is no way that should've been done, especially with what chara has done in the past and how his record is.

Just some common sense about it all too. What the hell would the cops do? The NHL would obviously review it and possibly deem it criminal if they felt necessary. Also it's not like cops don't watch hockey, they saw it too, just maybe not the on duty ones.
