GDT: LIVE THREADS ARE BACK BLUES @ HAWKS

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Man, I hope the Big Rig finds his way back to the franchise down the line in some capacity. Maybe not front office, but perhaps as an assistant with AHL affiliate or even just a concierge roll that helps welcome our prospects to the organization and gets them acclimated to St. Louis.

I can see the last one, but I kinda just imagine him helping coach the youth program in St. Louis.

He moved to Tampa full time and I think he’s pretty happy. I doubt he’s gonna be eager to hit the busses any time soon post-playing days.

Well, I'm 2-0 now. Won the first game 5-1, and this one 4-1. Which means the next game I go to we should win 3-1. I'll accept donations for travel and tickets to the first round at www.gofundme.badgers :)

It was an interesting game. We played fairly well for the first 5-7 minutes, and then really let up off the gas. I think the first period was more in our favor, but not by much. The Hawks started to really turn it on about 5 minutes into the second, and Hofer 100% kept us in the game with a ton of great saves. We scored the two goals (The Thomas goal was wild, I thought Holloway played it with a high stick live) and then went on the PP and I was feeling pretty good - until the Shorthanded goal against followed shortly after by another quick breakaway chance - again Hofer came up huge. The third period settled down after Walker's goal, and then Bolduc was icing - after that the Hawks really didn't have too much push back and we won.

Thoughts on some players:

Thomas - This was my first time seeing Thomas live, (He was hurt the game before the Toronto game, much to my chagrin) and he was underwhelming. He's one of my favorites, and I think he's really good, but today was not a good game for him, even though he scored that goal.

Bolduc - I've been banging on the drum forever to get Bolduc up on the top line, and I actually got to see that happen live! I thought he had a good game, but he needs to learn to be way more selfish when he's on that line. He was trying to defer to Thomas and Neighbors and it wasn't working. I get why - he's the rookie playing with our best Center - but he needs to play his game when he's on that line, and fire the everliving shit out the puck every time he's got even the slightest opening.

WTF line - Wow are these guys clicking right now. They are probably our defacto third line at this point, and even though they don't generally produce offense, they had two huge goals for us. It's a joy watching them cycle and grind in the offensive zone. If we make the playoffs, these guys are going to be a right pain in the ass for whomever we're playing against.

Schenn - I was REALLY critical of Schenn after the Toronto game, I thought he was straight up cooked and couldn't handle the speed of the NHL at all anymore - and today he looked like a completely different player. Was actually really impressed with his overall game - he did a good amount of puck protection and distributing in tight areas and won a bunch of board battles/stayed hard on the puck. He did a ton of the little things right in this game.

Broberg - I still can't believe we got this guy for a 2nd. Like holy shit. He's a f***ing machine in the D-zone. His angles are really solid. His body positioning is poised. He makes smart plays with the puck. I'm honestly shocked that he's basically playing his first full season as a Top-4 guy with the way he plays. He swallowed up play after play after play and just stopped the Hawks, whether it was on the rush or the cycle. Unreal the poise he shows out there. Amazing skater too, just so fluid and covers so much ice. I honestly can't say enough good things about him, I think he was our best D-man by a MILE today.

Fowler - This was my first time seeing Fowler live, since we traded for him after Toronto. I liked what I saw. Fowler and Broberg were the clear better players on both of their pairs.

Faulk - This was the second time I've come away from a game thinking Faulk is the worst top 4 defenseman we have. He was f***ing BAD in Toronto and he was f***ing WORSE today. He is a massive weak link that Broberg regularly covers up for at 5v5. I dug up my post from that Toronto game and here's what I wrote back then:

2. Faulk - Faulk was maybe the most frustrating top 4 D to watch. His puck skills are below average and his IQ is f***ing terrible. I HIGHLY disagree with that game score card thingy someone posted earlier. He gets caught in-between CONSTANTLY and it's very frustrating to watch. There were multiple times when he didn't decide if he wanted to step up or back up - his penalty was 100% a direct result of this. He made multiple egregious turnovers that Binner had to stop. He was by far our worst top 4 d-man tonight.

He didn't have the same in-between I remember from the Toronto game, but his hands/puck skills are pretty bad - his lack thereof led to the SH goal against. Broberg 100% covers for him sucking at 5v5 - we need to upgrade on Faulk in the worst kind of way.

Leddy - looks slow. Fumbled the puck a lot. Not really sure if he can handle his off-side at this point of his career - he would almost constantly look to move towards the lefthand side of the ice when he was rushing up. Hope Parayko is back sooner then expected.

Last but not least - Hofer. Man what a stud he was today. He was playing kinda doo-doo this year, but since that disallowed goal in LA man he's been lights out. I would keep feeding him starts, I think he's outplayed Binner the last couple of weeks. Made at least a half dozen ten bell saves, especially that second SH breakaway with under a minute to go in the second. The Hawks score there and boy is this game totally different.

Anyway, it was super fun to be back at Kiel I mean Savvis I mean Scottrade I mean Enterprise Center for the first time in like 20 years. Got to take a couple of nice photos of this big ass banner hanging in the rafters that looked pretty f***ing cool:

It was my first game this year and had the privilege to talk hockey with some Black Hawks fans. I totally agree with the above. I had no clue who Texier was wondering if we picked up someone on waivers. I kept thinking this guy just doesn’t fit here.

The Hawks fans were telling me that they do not think they will make the high pick but will trade it. They are fed up with lack of spend on players. Have enough talent, they need some guys that can play with them. Every game teams are taking shots at Bedard and yesterday was no different. They really like Levshunov and I can see why. Their goalie also is kind of a favorite and he did make some really good saves.

They brought up us fleecing the Oilers for Holloway and Broberg as brilliant. They thought Hofer reminded them of Belfour in goal.

Had a good time and traffic wasn’t bad at all
