Post-Game Talk: Literally shooting yourself in the foot

Yeah -1.7 GSAE in a 4-3 loss is pretty abysmal.

The first goal was comical.
Question, how do they calculate GSAE? How is it decided which shot should be saved and which shot Is more likely to go in? I see it posted about this stat, if its accurate it would seem to be the best way to rate a goalies performance. I am not familiar with it. I also see Skinner is in the negative every game and Pickard in the positive most, even when he gives up goals.

Only thing he's not committed to is improving his game, apparently.

It's been years and he's still awful at reading the play, still awful at lateral movement, and has stats that get worse on a game by game basis.

How can he improve when after every shitty loss he comes out and says how well he thought he played and how he gives the team a chance to win? Goals are never his fault and it’s just bad bounces which like bad weather is impossible to predict. Once in a while he trots out the “I’ll learn from this and be better” bit but it’s just the media training self preservation mechanism kicking in to avoid and diffuse tough questions on his abysmal play game after game.

He needs to change the name bar on his jersey from Skinner to Notmyfault.

Stupid move by Stuart to challenge that and left himself exposed. Just absolutely careless with 2 secs left.

Pickard was probably good to play but Knob decided to sit him out in order to play this idiot. Like I said he's bound to have a Conklin moment

Didn’t watch but from all the comments we played like shit and probably didn’t deserve the win.

I was pretty confident this wouldn’t be a sweep since we pretty much stole last game.

Hopefully Pickard heals up and is back in for the next one
They took a 2-0 lead when skinner let in a backbreaking weak goal right after that gave vegas life. Vegas then a minute later road that momentum into an oilers defensive breakdown to tie it on a shot skinner could have played better. Blame the team more for the 2nd goal but man, that first goal was so brutal when it looked like oil had all the control and momentum of the game. It gave vegas life and confidence they didnt have to be perfect to score.

This is much more on Draisaitl than on Skinner. Shitty way to lose.
Drai is trying to stop a puck in an open net. He doesnt get to watch in slow mo to calculate its clearly going wude. If anything its more on the 2 oilers that dove into same position seconds earlier. I understanding not much time left and wanting to block a shot cuz he doesnt have much time left but they literally skid into same position. 1 of them needs to stay on their feet there.

Yes, I revised my take after viewing it several more times with a cooler head. The whole sequence leading to the goal was atrocious team play.

I have a feeling that Skinner isn't going anywhere despite a dogshit season and even worse playoffs.

Far too much media gaslighting and him being trotted out to make lame excuses...a goalie that is done with the team wouldn't be getting any time with the media, IMO
They came admit or let out be known Schwartz is absolutely fking useless that's why

It’s essentially shot location and shot type. Most models don’t account for much else including a screen or whether there was an east-west pass prior to the shot.

It’s a highly, highly flawed stat at the moment. Until AI starts improving the algorithm you are better off with eye test to judge single games/events and standard SPCT over a longer sample.

It takes a lot of balls to call out a fellow major league goaltender like that publicly, so you have to expect he's showing some restraint with his opinion here.

I can only imagine as a former player for the team and likely fan for life that he felt his heart being ripped out by Skinner one time too many as well. Imagine how Leon feels? You could feel his anger and heartbreak when he said that the first two goals "deflated us" in his postgame interview.

This was Skinner's chance to save his reputation and stay on this team. No chance that Leon wants to share a dressing room with this guy for another season.
Dubnyk summed up Skinners game exactly how I saw it as well. First goal was terrible, no reason for that to have been a rebound or him to be that deep and falling backwards. Second goal was also crap, my 13 year old wouldn’t have went down that quickly and opened up like the Grand Canyon at the first move. Third goal was stoppable and a good goalie makes that save but that’s not 100 percent on him. Fourth goal is the only one that he takes the least amount of blame for, for the exact reasons Dubnyk explained, just boneheaded plays by all skaters on the ice.

Classic Not My Fault Stu.

1st goal / a total mess of an initial save and winds up flat on his ass losing the puck completely and doing the freshly caught fish dance, puck into net.

2nd goal / yes a breakaway where he lifts his sliding pad up - why only he and God knows - and it’s an easy slide through a bus sized 5 hole.

3rd goal / yes a shit line change but overplays the short pass and has to dash back allowing the puck to magically go right through him

4th goal / what in the holy f*** was that. Lost track of time, did the Street Hockey Shuffle and gets walked. Just stay in your Goddam net so Pope Leo doesn’t have to put his stick into your yawning cage to prevent an open net goal YOU FKG MORON.

Yes Smilin’ Stu made a couple nice stops. That’s what he’s paid to do. But the 4 he lets in are all stoppable pucks, 3 of them routine.

The gameplay completely changed after that joke of a first goal where the team visibly tightened their sphincters because of his erratic goaltending.

Get him away from the team. I’d rather ride and die with an EBug at this point.

I hate this guy.

Sickening loss.

I actually hate Skinner. Like legitimately hate him.

I’m not watching game 4 live if he’s starting. I’ll just PVR it.
Oh, I've been avoiding most of his starts all season, like last night. I PVR'd the game and just saw it this morning. The man literally has the IQ of a door knob. Why the F*** do you leave your net and go for a skate with 2.5 seconds left? Completely lost, bad instincts, unaware of time management. What does this org see in him, is beyond me.

Skinner is done. He can’t stay in the net. If Pickard can’t go next one, they better let Rodrigue get his chance or this series will get swept away….🤷‍♂️
Unfortunately Rodrigue was complete ass all season in the AHL, if anyone thinks he could come in and be our saviour I’ve got ocean side property to sell them in Saskatchewan.

A good analysis from The Cult...got to suck this one up and play better in game four...

Another media source standing up for Skinner surprise surprise. It's getting beyond embarssing with the gaslighting. Between all the media and knoblach interview aftwr the game and even fking Skinner amd i gave the team a chance to win with his .833 save percentage yet AGAIN. Every excuse in the book for this guy every game it's disgusting. They're insulting the fans and there intelligence with this bullshit

By bad bounces he means the one he completely opened up the five hole on, or the soft one that went right through him. Or the last one where if he would’ve just stayed in his net. Then again it’s stu if he stays in his net it probably goes in five hole and he would say it was a bad bounce anyways.

Bad bounces are like mcdavids goal off Mcnabb skate and in

Imagine defending this guy and thinking you have a leg to stand on.

The thing with Skinner, he just cant make the big save when it matters. Back in the glory days, Oilers would score lots and Fuhr would make that one save that would help the Oilers. Skinner cant do that. He is the Charlie Brown of goaltending. Team is deflated when he is in. U know a weak goal is in the works. He made a few stops last night but he let some goals in we wished he stopped. I seriously think Charlie Brown will hit the FG before Skinner comes up big for the Oilers

well tbf with the Carter Hart situation the Canadian goalie situation looks disastrously bad right now with no truly elite NHL talent compared to the days of Brodeur and Luongo. Binnington came in clutch at 4 nations but people were pretty skeptical of him. Skinner was in that conversation for no other reason besides how thin Canada is in goal right now. Now I think I'd put Montembault/Thompson/Hill in there as a potential choice instead
I'd definitely put that zamboni driver that beat the Leafs that one time ahead of Moustache, as well.

This is 100% true.

The two defenders completely messed that up, yeah probably because they knew there was little time, so over compensated.

Skinner… I mean he was TERRIBLE on both the first two goals, just terrible. This one, he initially does what he’s supposed to, he comes way out to cut the angle. He needs to come way out because the two defenders create screen and deflection opportunities. Cutting the angle was the right play.

Unfortunately BOTH of his defenders bite on the fake shot and so does he. Now he has no choice but to swim… and he swam well enough and challenged hard enough to force a shot going wide… given the situation that’s half decent recovery goaltending.

Sadly, Drai isn’t going to know it’s going wide, so the deflection happens.

Beyond a doubt, we know Skinner is not the guy. Not now, not next year. We don't win the series with him.
Hoping this lights a spark in Drai because he's been pedestrian at best for him.
Good time for some roster changes. Stetcher for Emberson. J. Skinner? I would take out Ardvisson, it's funny watching him fall but can't stand his play. Janmark? Two half hearted stick checks in his own zone led to goals.
